Red face mmmhh dunno ...... ref @ 8000 rpm

Hi

I was feeling a bit funny yesterday and thought i ref the engine to 8000rpm - first time i did it a 1 foot flame came out - tried it again to get a pic of the flame and all i got is this - I hope it cleared the exhaust a bit.....
Can somebody tell me if this is a bad sign????? Is a 924/82

Hardly smokes when driving normally
Thanks

Thats not a bad sign if that only happens when you super rev it. It is just the extreme piston velocity, extreme heat, and extreme pressure knocking off the deposits on your pistons, cylinder walls, etc. It is actually good to do this every once in a while, so I have been told. Try to get a picture with the flames. That would be impressive. Is that just a standard 924 (120 HP abouts)?

Whenever I am accelerating fast and shift at anything above 6000, I hear a loud pop. I had a friend follow me in his Supra Turbo, and he said the flame is about 1 to 3 feet long! That's gotta freak old ladies out at night. I'll try to get a pic or video. I've never actually seen it, so I would be doing myself a favor.

how do you make a car shoot a flame out the back of the tail pipe? My uncle's 1986 930 Turbo shot 2 flames out its twin exhaust and he was running that Andial turbo, intercooler, and cams with 100 octane fuel. His ignition is MSD and wires are Magnecore. Could this be it? Can a 944NA from America do that? if so how do i go about fartin flames out my car?

Not sure on how to do it intentionally. Mine was the result of no cat and more fuel in the mix. Some people(can we say ricers) actually put a fuel injector in the exhaust to add gas to make the flame.

Eurospec, where did your pic go, I'm in withdrawl now?

It should be just fine for your car. However, it should only do it while at extreme RPMs or while lifting throttle from WOT at otherwise high RPMs.

Have fun getting that picture. I think I will have to do mine with video. I can't imagine myself getting that photo with a still unless I did a time lapse at night. Maybe that would be cooler anyway.

i would not advise overevving your engine. It will cause long term damage. I also would not advise revving your engine high with no load. My turbo throws a huge flame on WOT shifts.

My 951 also throws a nice big flame out the rear when I shift at high rpms. It sounds pretty scare - especially to the grandmas...lol
