What is a V-Belt

Does anybody know what a V belt is? It was about 36 dollars. I found a reciept in the car today, that said a new V was bought. It was dated 98', this is right when my stepdad stopped driving the car because he bought a jeep.

If you cut a belt in half and looked at the cross-section it resembles a V

Must be talking about the flat belt going to the AC and alternator. It's a poly rib belt. Five or six small V belts in one. Can be expensive depending on where purchased.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

A V-Belt is ANY belt that is designed to run in a V shaped pulley like the power steering pump pulley.

The alternator/A.C compressor belt is a poly-ribbed, or multiple-ribbed belt.
