Unhappy Help - Headlights and pwr windows dead

All of a sudden the headlights and the power windows are dead on my 1985 early 944.

The parking lights work
The headlights open but the beams won't light
the interior lights and instrument lights all work

I checked the fuses and they all seem fine

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Tom

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Even with the parking lights working and the instrument dimmer working? And why would the power windows go out at the same time?

all the fuses are fine - both sets.

the parking lights work
break lights work
tail lights work
all interior lights work
everything else electrical works

what does not work are the headlights, the fog lights, the driving lights and the strangest thing the power windows.

So where is there a common point for power to all the 4 things that don't work

I can here the driving light relay click when i turn them on but no power to the lights

i hope some one has run into this before - it is frustrating

Strange but true

I fixed the head lights and power window issue.

I still had the steering wheel, wiper switch, and turn directional swith still off and unconnected when i was testing to see if putting all the guages and the counsel all back together worked.

it was at this time i tried the headlights and power windows and found they did not work.

I would not have guessed in a million years that the wiper switch and the turn directional switch all had had to be pluged in for the headlights and the power windows to work?

I thought porsche had every thing on separate circuits.

They are on seperate circuits. Me thinks you wiggled something under the dash.

Check out the electrical schematics for your early car here:
