Hi there,
I own a 1986 951 with 91 000 miles. When I bought it 1000 miles ago, I flushed the coolant system but I know that I didn't bleed it properly. Here are the symptoms: on hot days, the temperature needle always stay over 3/4 on the temperature gauge. 3 or 4 times, my check engine light (!) even lighted on because the temperature was in the red zone. My fans only started when the needle was at the highest part. My question is: can this be air or if my temperature is THAT high? Thanks alot, Yan (and sorry for my bad english) ![]() |

your thermostat might be busted on the car, goto www.************************ and order their low-temp thermostat and fan switch to keep your car cooler.

Could also be your water pump. I would definitely bleed the system first.

Hi Yan, it might be time for a cooling system overhaul, I would replace both thermostates, one in the water pump and the lil one for the turbo, also replace the fan switch in the radiator, and as a final note if you still have the original radiator get a new one Vertex has em for 225.00 for the turbo (Factory original) (I got one) and make shure to use the phosphate free coolant when you renew everything, it is orange and it will say on the container if it is indeed phosphate free. |

Having done this exact same thing. it's not air in your system. The symptom of that is a fluxuation in the gage goes up comes down. I can almost tell you for shure that it's your Thermostat. I used the standard one and now wish I had not I'll be replacing it soon with a 160 unit. I also took the time to have my raditor cored out or rodded it was $35 and is now clean as a babys butt. Also when you do it replace your upper and lower radiator hoses and anything else that looks like it is gettting old with the raised temps under the hood rubber fails quick.
