Question Suspension

I've just started to take the 83 944 around the neighborhood at night to "run" it. The suspension feels very harsh. Is it possible (from your experience) that a 28,000 mile car is ready for new shocks?

Are they konis? What kind of shocks are they? You know ..the shocks are 20 years old. It might be time for new ones?

Check all the swaybar bushings. Check the shocks for too much play (pressing down on them and seeing if they bounce a couple times) bounce = bad. Check balljoints and tie rod ends.

A "stiff" ride is typical for the 944's. Notice that the steering is better at speed.

Rubber items such as suspension bushings and timing belts will rot after four or five years. A loose suspension is not as bad as a broken timing belt.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?
