Blew the cat.....and a flame came out...SWEEET

ok i know i was saying i wanted my car to shoot a flame. and it did, i revved up to 5 grand and when i backed off on the gas i heard a loud pop. I was doin this in the driveway tryin to see if the idle changed after revving....the neighbor said he saw a flame come out the pipe and thought i was a race car or some *****. i got out looked behind me, saw a whole buncha insulation and carbon on the ground behind the exhaust. the car was still running, idling at around like 800-900 rpm and it was louder too.

Now, I want to ask this question....I have the opportunity to buy a high-flow catalytic converter. Since I live in California, state law requires all street cars to have them. I was looking at a Magnaflow high-flow cat and i was wondering, would i lose power or would it make any change to how my motor is running now? would it slow me down since its a universal and not a Porsche part???

I had a Pontiac Sunfire once. i had the little 2.2l OHV that could. now when i did the exhaust system, i went from 30 mpg highway to over 40. I hit 28 around town. i did not see as much a difference as i did until i went high flow cat. it was the "Weakest Link" in the system. the replacement was actually for an eclipse, i just cut the flanges off and welded on my own. I paid $70 for the cat and 7.50 for the flanges from pep-boys. i even weleded on the coupler for the O2 sensor. i saved hundreds in gas money, especially since i was driving to FL from VA alot.

So cxan you replace the cat with a universal highflow...? I know the porsche ones are supposed to be pretty good as far as low backpressure...but would a nice highflow one go on with minor mods?

I heard you can put a universal high flow on through many people. My question is, will my performance drop worse than the factory cat????
