Intake Manifold Cleaning

Another newbie question on my daughters 85.5 944. The clouds parted and my daughter and I went to work on changing out the timing and balance shaft belts. Along the way I pulled the air meter (MAF sensor - I'm not sure of the Porsche terminology for it), the intake boot, and ultimately the throttle body.

Here is the throttle body.

The back of the throttle body looked a little better but the intake manifold is, shall we say, "less than pristine".

I am certainly open to suggestions for a method of cleaning the intake manifold.

Oh, I put my daughter to work on cleaning the throttle body and she did a decent job of it.

She was going after it with a toothbrush and got a big spray of carb cleaner in her eyes. I'm amazed, she was calmer about it than I was.

The "T" line that ties to the intake boot, just before the throttle body is just about as crapped out as the throttle body itself with gunk. What is that line, PCV?

Lastly,

Does anyone want a set of original - real brittle - 1985 power steering and alternator/AC belts with the Porsche logo and part number printed on them? They look cool but they are big time shot.

Thanks,

...Lee

I just cleaned the intake on my 968. I removed it from the car and used carb cleaner with brushes on the inside. The soaked the inside with degreaser and hosed it out.

When I removed the intake, the intake ports on the head were just as bad as you throtthle body maybe even worse. I very carefully cleaned them using carb cleaner and lots of rags.
Make sure the valves are closed brfore doing this. You don not want any carbon crumbs in the pistons.
