what is the story with motor mounts?

Are these mounts the *good* ones?

Blue box, has logo reads "Original PE", Quality spare parts made in Germany, QUALITATSERSATZTIELE WELTWEIT

Label reads:
PE-No. 670.000.10
to fit: 951.375.042.04
Motor Mount
Rubber to Metal Bonded Part

The mount has the square PE logo GERMANY and both part number stamped on rubber, the metal part is light gold color, has replacement bolts kit.

I read a few previous posts, please help settle my confusion. What's the history with mounts, the design changed over the years?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

if the rubber is sqishy, or the rubber bends around, the mount might be bad. if it's solid and clean, you're good to go! this install is quite simple, but not easy if it's just you. you'll need a friend to help you out for sure for the simpler method.

I mean new ones, I've had these on the shelf, are they the best ones to install? I don't care about old, probably original.

Oh yeah, pardon the detracting... Back to your question V41. The best ones to use now are the turbo mounts, since the mounts for the NA wouldn't last as long. What you have is a 951 part for the mounts, so yes those are the best to use.

Simple way to check for engine mounts.

Stick your hand between the crossmember and the bottom of the engine -- oil pan. If you can just get the tips of your fingers in there then the mounts are shot.

If most of your hand fits up to the knuckles or better, then the mounts are good.

Many have changed engine mounts only to find that the balance shaft belt is off a tooth or two or one of the pulleys is on 170 degrees out.

You know...... I ordered an OEM mount from the dealer last year and a so called 'generic' mount from a different source..... and I received the same mount. They were both solid as far as I could tell.... (didn't feel like slicing my nice new mounts open).
I am still not convinced at what mount is which anymore. I have ordered 3 sets of mounts from three different sources. Same flippen mounts 'visually'.
They are definitely not the original 944 mounts..... they all have turbo 951. part numbers..... and are the updated ones.........but I can't tell which are gel filled??? or solid ???

Here is a quick way to spot an OE part:

Look on your window glass (assuming you have factory glass) Right above the "sekurit" is a triangle with a stylized symbol (looks sort of like a V & D, but it is actually a P&D)

That is the Porsche "proof mark" All Porsche OE parts will have that mark on it somewhere - even is there is no part number.

Your motor mount is OEM - made by the same people that make the OE mount for Porsche

Use it

Go figure........ you learn something new everyday.

I just figured that if the part cost twice as much as the other part that looks and feels the same it would be Porsche O.E.M.

Thanks Mother Juvat

There is only one mount are for the Turbo/NA cars now. We used to install the aftermarket ones, but they definitely do not last as long as the Porsche part so we give customers a choice, they have to be aware that the cheaper ones will need changing sooner.
The Porsche ones come in a Porsche box, the aftermarket in a blue box. I don't think that the aftermarket manufacturer makes the Porsche part.
