Hmm, something i found that intrested me...

I remember hearing something about a boxster coupe. So i searched for some pictures. I found these. I think it's sort of odd that Porsche would produce a closed cockpit version of a car that had phenomenal sales as a convertible. That and the 911 is their premier coupe model. The 986 was a replacement for the 968, correct?

One of these photos shows the rear hatch open, as though there is no engine back there (in stead, storage space maybe?) And maybe it's just me, but the front end seems a little longer. Wouldn't it be crazy as hell if the replacement for the boxster wasn't a boxster at all - but a throwback to the era of the front engine coupes? In the photo you can see Porsche retained cooling vents both on the sides and hatch (so maybe I’m wrong) If they ever make another 944-like car I would sell my parents house and buy one!

So, how many people think I’m crazy? I haven't heard anything about this prototype car. I have heard that Porsche was planning a 928 like GT car.

I really don't know, but that is one sweet ride! I am not a huge boxter fan, but it would look a lot better in a hardhat!

If itīs a boxter,it must be mid engined...thereīs no other way.
I think is a nice idea,i always tought why this porsche people didīnt made a coupe boxter, which i think must be the basic version, and then the convertible must be an option. However,itīmy opinion.

Donīt think porsche is gonna build a front engine model anymore...and not an inline four, for sure. But letīs see what it comes.

definitely not! I mean, could you imagine that old "it's not a REAL Porsche" argument starting all over again!?!

Imagine a Boxter coupe that weighed 200lbs less than the current convertible of 2,700lbs. (convertibles always seem about 200lbs heavier than there sibling the coupe)
I would be in line real quick for a 2500lbs, 250HP S motor in a car that was $5000 less than the current model. (convertibles usually add $3000- $5000 to the price of the car)
The coupe would have a better power to weight ratio to any of the 924's, 944's and 968's including the 944 turbo S.

Where do I sign?
Oh make mine Guards Red W/ 6 speed

Cayenne is front engine soon to be with a VW-derived 3.2 V6, so it will be like a large R32 - possibly without AWD!

Yeah, i know Porsche wouldn't make another rear engine car (i think they finaly figured out that thats not "ideal.") I wouldn't put it past them to do a front mid engine, like an esparanté. I don't think people would call the concept of a new front engined porsche "not a real porsche" only because they HAVE made front engine porsches before. And when they made our 924/44/68 line it was a new concept for Porsche.

I have seen / heard reports of a Boxster coupe for quite some time: seems this one may make it!

From what I've read, the car pictured above is a mid-engined car (engine is underneath / slightly infront of the rear hatch area). Unfortunately, they most likely will sell it at the same price as the convertible, although that defies marketing logic! (But if they put a 3.4 6cyl in it, I can see them selling the car for the same price).

Can't wait to see it in person.

PS: Make mine a midnight blue with a 5 speed!

But like i said, whoever said it's even going to be a new 986, it could be a cheaper, entry-level model. Hmm, 945 - the 4.5 V8 cayenne motor! An evolution of the 928!

...but i guess that would make getting parts for your RHD 944 confusing.

according to many magazines, including the Holy Grail - er, EVO - the Boxster coupe is on its way. I think the photoshopped pics above look pretty good, and I think a Boxster coupe is a great idea - the handling of a Boxster with the rigidity of a coupe? I'll take one.

I don't think that's exactly what the finished car would look like, however - look at the profile, it's all 911... i think they would change the window profile a bit.

It looks photo-shopped to me to BUT...

there have been discussions to built a lower optioned, cheaper Boxster to get them into the S2000, 350Z, Z4, RX8 market. A hardshell Boxster would be cheaper to build and more importantly, doesn't look like a 996 so they don't threaten that demographic's egos with a lower-priced car.

Chevy tried it with the 'vette hardtop until they decided the heck with it and made the Z06
