AC fixed, now a bunch of questions
 

Gentlemen,

I had my AC leak fixed, re-charged, works great, but when it is running i hear some strange clicks from behind the dash, about every 7 seconds or so. They seem to alternate loud and soft and on the soft ones my voltage guage will twitch. Is this normal?

My '86 951 does the same thing and it seems to be the compressor cycling on and off. I think that this is normal. I have had other cars that did the same thing inorder to keep the system from freezing. Does any body else know for sure?

My 87NA does the exact same thing. It is the compressor cycling to maintain the correct line pressure for the A/C. Kinda annoying, but better than being hot.

Ditto for me. About every 7 seconds on my 88 944NA. Someone here or at Rennlist suggested that I recharge my AC, as it was an indication that I was low on freon.

Shelled out $200 for more freon, and it still cycles. It is the compressor, as you can definitely feel a temp difference between when it clicks on and when it clicks off.

Does yours cycle everytime you use it? Most of the times mine does, but on some days it does not. I haven't tried to keep close track of the relationship between real hot days, vs. cool summer days, but I want to say it cycles more during hotter days.

i would agree that it seems to cycle more on hot days, I just ran to walmart to buy some dexcool and I dont think it was doing it as much.

What if you set your temp a bit higher, I bet it would cycle less. However someone on this board said that the norm was to cycle for 45seconds, and stop for 15 ... 7 seconds seems a bit short ....

When you mean set my temp higher, do you mean inside the cabin? as in , the knob?

OK, i was in Traffic today in Savannah GA, it was pretty hot, the damn compressor started cycling like every 2 seconds, it was causing the idle to go up and down with it, so I am the light and the damn car is reving itself UP DOWN UP DOWN UP DOWN, it was so f'in bad that I just shut the damn thing off, but when Im on the freeway it works just fine. What gives?

Crappy electrical systems in these cars is what gives. I'm removing the AC in my car. Of course....I live where it hardly ever gets over 80-85 degrees and if it does just wait around a day or two and it's back down to the mid-70's.

'86 944 NA

Compressor cycling. Mine does it too. '86 951. Takes about a minute to cycle off, then remains off for 15 seconds. The hotter it is, the more mine stays on. I got bored on a lengthy drive and timed it once with a stopwatch.

So how do I keep it from doing it every 2 seconds, I mean its really one second on, one off, one on, one off, silly.

Don't really know. Wonder if the low pressure switch is messed up. Switch shuts of compressor is refrigerant is low. I would talk to the shop that fixed the leak and ask if it was doing it there in their shop.
