Question As you know I got new rims & tires; rubbing p.rear

Hey guys! Got tires & rims today. Rims are stock from the 91 & newer Porsche wheels on 968s. Silver finish 5 spoke. I believe the rear pair are 9 inches wide. The problem is that my pass. rear tire just the top 2 " maybe rubs a little on hard acceleration (car rocks back)and some bumps and hard turns. Looking at each rear wheel it seems that maybe the pass. rear is further out (wider so to say)just a few mm therefore it would rub with car leaning....is it a suspension component or what? Im a little aggravated since I love the wheels and tires (Bridgestone RE730s)and paid a lot for them....I really want to keep them ya know!!!

Thanks again for your all knowing suggestions!

funny, your car sounds like my previous 951 where i had cup 2 replicas 7.5 front 9 rear using re730's. i had rubbing on driver's side rear under hard accel. i dunno, maybe re730's are a little wider a tire. if i kept the car, i was going to roll the rears.

I believe my rear pair are 195/40/17 not sure though....if it was the tire size it would rub on both rear tires right? Is there some suspension stuff on the arms do you think? Could it be that the actual body is a few mm off on one side? Im lost...Not worried though because the tires just barely rub....I think that I may just try to ensure that there arent any rough places on the inside of the fender flare itself....Thanks again guys!! Please let me know what ideas you may have...

It is not uncommon for the sheet metal to be hung differently on each side of the car so don't think suspension is for sure off.
Before you go changing camber to clear, your '86 probably doesn't have very tightly rolled fenders. Where the sheet metal bends over from the outside and rolls up to form a seam is not a tight "U" but more of an "L". And that lower leg of the L is rubbing. So, you or a shop can "roll" them.

Clean off the undercoating in the fender lip area. Using a wood baseball bat you wedge it between the tire and inner fender and by moving the car back and forward roll the baseball bat between the tire and inner sheet metal. Two man job - one to drive and one to shape. You are trying to bend up the inner sheet metal "L" shaped lip into a "U" for a bit of clearance. You also end up flairing the whole fender out but your first objective is to bend into a "U". Do it in small stages and be careful you don't crack the paint or put in some big outward dent because you were trying to shape too quickly.

This will work for sure if you only need a handful of mm, but better get on it right away in case you have to get narrower tires. You wear the rubber tits and paint stripes off the tire tread and you probably won't be able to exchange them.

I can't believe you only have 195's on the rear, better look again.

I looked at what the 968's offsets were for the rear - 52mm. As the '86 951 was only 23mm are you sure that these aren't rubbing on the INSIDE?

My tire size 195/40/17 in the rears mounted on 9" wheels. I looked more closely in the daylight and it appears it should be easy to roll the lip using a dowel or something soft to shape the metal. Man these wheels look good... how do I put a picture on my post???

not uncommon for body dimensions to be off a bit. the 944's really are a mass produced product so the tolerances are a bit sloppy.

the fix, as mentioned above, you will need to "roll" your fender lip. If you dont want to do that, I'll trade with ya. I have old 15 inch fuches on my car.

if your rear tire is 195mm and the rim is 9", your tire is not rubbing, your wheel is the one doing the rubbing. check that you have the rears on the rear.

Can we say duuhhhhhh? Im sorry guys... the rear pair are 255/40/17 Bridgestone RE730s on the 9" wheels....I have the same wheels as Eurospec (from a later model 911). It is not the wheels rubbing the fender at all. Only the tire....about where the writing is but not rubbing enough to mar the writing though....I plan to roll the fenders myself....sorry for the mix up with the tire size. I am usually tired as hell when I write....Thanks again
