When the picture was taken it had a Ford V6 Essex engine taken from a TVR 3000. I'd never had it on a dyno but the owner reckoned it to be chucking out around 200 bhp. I wondered whether he was being a little over-enthusiastic with the truth but she'd certainly crack 135 in very short order. I'd regularly use her as a day to day car and drove to all the events (and back again) that I put her through. Acceleration was brutal because she's so very light - whack open the throttle and you would literally be thrown back in the seat. Wayyy fun. Sadly the engine let go (oil pump failure) and I've had to make do with a 3.1 Westlake version of the same engine which doesn't have quite the same edge. Still quick though - just less butch. People stare a lot. Rarely tailgated - being matt black and ugly it looks like I just don't care and am liable to jam on the brakes at any moment - it's got a full built in roll cage so maybe I just might ... who can say? :) People always give way at junctions too. It has an extended chassis built that runs out in front of the wheels - everything is 3 X 2 box section steel - like you'd find on a truck. I read that a guy T boned a Ford Escort with one and practically tore it in half with minimum damage to his own vehicle. I can believe it - that nosecone is filled with impact foam - about five foot by two foot square of the stuff. And it's still lighter than the donor car by about the weight of an engine. Outhandles my 944 too. Shame she's so ugly though. :) |

I've got a forced induction fetish, it seems I like to be blown :p
This is my summer/fun car. http://starquest.bluegtzhome.com/pics/aug23_07front.jpg Unfortunately, due to my deer incident, it's not be treated as my summer fun car right now :( It's being subjected to the harsh cruel winter months until the 944 is back up to speed. This is my wife's Valentine's day present from me a couple of years back. http://www.bluegtzhome.com/pics/gtp/gtp10.jpg GTP - Supercharged. And then I've got my '62 Bug which is currently a pan off custom that I'm working on. It's plans include a 2.7l flat 6 from a 911, along with a custom turbo setup and fuel injection. Should prove to be loads of fun when ever I complete it... |
The "I"m an idiot" edit.

Well... I love cars. My little Geo, I love it because it drives like a go-cart, and it never seems to break down. My Saturn is kind of peppy and it does well in the snow, and my Volvo... I love it because its huge. Its a tank. I think tanks are fun to drive. I must admit, I love every car. Every car I see on the street would be a fun project car.

Heh, oh man. I thought this thread was from 2CPU.com. Actually, man, I coulda sworn it was from 2CPU.com. I was reading both forums and replying at the same time and BAM!, all sorts of confused.
Oh well, guess they call me slowtoady for a reason:-P. |
The only other car that I've owned that I actually liked was my 86 Cherokee Sport. Nothing special, I know, but that thing had over 200K miles when I inherited it, the back bumper was held on by bungee cords, and the paint was stripping off the hood... but it was a lot of fun to drive, especially off-road! It was like a big steel box... they don't make SUVs like that any more!
Nice Elise, Flangermog! Apparently the U.S. is getting the Elise sooner or later... |

Huh, I guess this could count as special:
http://home.att.net/~epbrown01/1966-rolls.jpg Someone ran a red light a while back and plowed into it, and rather than fix it or replace it (Silver Shadows are infamous money-pits to make right again and it's rare to come out ahead like this), I've decided to use the insurance settlement and the money from the sale of the wreck to buy the other 2 Porsche models available (in the US) the same year as my 911SC: the first year of the 944, and the first year of the 928S on our side of the pond, when it was the fastest street-legal production car available for sale in the US. A small collection that catches a moment in Porsche history! It won't put me up there with Jay Leno or Jerry Seinfeld, but I think it's pretty cool. Hopefully I can find athe other 2 cars in Guards Red with black leather interiors, and within my budget. I like the idea of a matched set, mostly because of an old Road & Track article where they did a group test of all the 1987 Porsches (911 cab, 911 turbo, 944, 944 Turbo, 928S4) all in Guards Red. That double-page spread of red Porsches was gorgeous (and influential). Driving the RR was cool - you get lots of looks, my girlfriend and sisters especially loved being chauffered around in it, and it was a great conversation piece. Also, my buddies liked it because you easily get into clubs if you pull up in one and valet park it. It's the first car I've owned where I regularly got offers from strangers to buy it, even after the accident. Maintenance wasn't outrageous and I was surprised how easy the car was to work on in most respects, and how readily available parts were for a car nearly 40 years old and sold in pretty limited numbers. I'll miss the size, comfort, and fun times - but I enjoy driving and the car's not meant for a driving enthusiasts. You have to almost come to a complete stop to make a turn! Emanuel |
