Need a part # from a early car.
I need the part # from a early car for the sunroof switch. I have 3 of the ones for later cars. The problem with these switches is that it will let me raise and lower the panel, but it will not let it release. I know that my working are working because I can jump across 2 of the pins on the plug and it will release. So if anyone with a early car with a sunroof can get that for me, that would be great. And if anyone needs a sunroof switch for a later car, 15.00 plus shipping.

951 613 123 00. (superseded by newer part, hence the 951 part number) I think Gordon is right, they did not have electric release

Also, the shop manual I have , shows the early car in the pics, and gives instructions on how to "release" using the switch with the key in postion 1

you know, I went back to check and saw that the parts appear to be the same for both versions. I have never had one of the older models so I'm not sure but does yours have the tab on the front of the sunroof for the microswitch? this is usually the culprit and not the switch itself

Also check out the new Tweeks catalog. Page 149, bottom right hand corner. Tweeks part # 402-276. Anybody with a early car and a original switch want to pop it up for me and get the part number. Please....

Todd, I am sorry if I was wrong but I have seen a few early cars ( Mine is one example) and have not seen an electric sunroof on any. I suppose one could be modified using later parts ( I would want to know about this ).

Mine is a 84. Most of the 83 that I have seen are manual. Most of the 84 that I have seen are electric. My owners manual even has instruction on how to take it out.

check on the front of the sunroof for the tab that depresses the microswitch in the roof. when this switch is out of adjustment, it will not let the roof arms retract

Ronin, would this be true also jumping the 2 pins on the plug. Like I said before, I'm pretty sure that all of my working are working, due to the fact that I can get it to release by jumping the 2 pins on the plug.

hmm, that's ineresting. if the microswitch was not working then you shouldn't be able to get them to retract no matter what. unless of course there is a separate circuit that addresses the microswitch that you happen to be bypassing. doesn't make sense though as that would be unnecessarily complicated. what is the part number on the new switch?

Ronin, Yes I did get the digram. I was able to test and work on the switch. Everything checked out fine. I think I just need the switch from a early car. I do know that they changed a lot of stuff in the electronics on the 86 and a few things on the 85.5. I have the board with the motor and the micro switches attached from the 86 951 I parted out, and it is different from the one in my 84

Bad Gordon. The sunroof switch is much like the window switch on both vehicles. I used an early window switch for my early sunroof switch untill I ordered the latter for my '84. Some solder and a lamp cord (hehe not really, I didn't use a cord). I just soldered the wires to the right pins and it worked great.

All 944 models use the 951 613 123 00 sunroof switch, there is no alternative part number. If the switch works then there is a fault elsewhere in the system. If it is raising and closing the front microswitch is working. If it not retracting the arms completely I would guess that the microswitches at the motor assembly are out-of-adjustment.
