hmmm. I was under the impression that the microswitch at the header was responsible for retracting the arms. todd, the diagram for the rear micro will be on the way asap ;)

I still don't understand why I would be able to jump 2 of the pins and get the sunroof to release if either of the micro switches was bad. I still think I just need a early switch. I understand about the Porsche part #, I do also know that Tweeks sells a switch just for the early cars.

todd, I just realized I never sent you that diagram. do you still need it or are things working properly now?

todd84944 12-23-2003 07:48 PM

Ronin,
I found the parts about the sunroof in my shop manuals. Everything checks out ok so far, just can't get it to release with the later switch. I can still do it jumping the 2 pins, just won't work with the switch. I think I'm just going to break down and spend the money with tweeks and see if the switch they have will work. Plus it will fit in the opening in the console. I don't have the surround that goes around the switch. The early switch fits right in there.

hmm, unfortunately my unfamiliarity with the system isn't much help in that regard. I did verify with Britwrench earlier today that it was the rear microswitch that could be the culprit. I'm wondering if perhaps jumping the pins on the rockerswitch isn't bypassing the micro. do you have access to someone else's older switch?

todd84944 12-23-2003 08:50 PM

No I don't I wish I did. I will add this also. With any of the 3 switches I have, I tried all 3, the arms will not relase at all. I can only raise and lower the panel. Once the panel is down, that's it. In other words, like on my buddy's 85.5 that I take care of. When the key is in postion, you push the switch, and you can hear the motor run and the arms release the arms. On my 84, with any of the switches, with the key in postion, no sound at all.I had my wife work the switch will I stood next to the panel in the back with the motor and switches, and heard nothing.

yep, that's the exact symptom of a malfunctioning rear micro. I dicsovered that I have the same problem with my '87 at the moment. I'm going to have a look-see tomorrow and see what I find

I have a complete board motor and all the switches out of a 87 if you need one. I sold my S to a guy to make it into a track car. He let me have the complete interior and all of the sunroof parts. By the way that makes 4 late switches that I have. The interior is black, and the carpet cleaned up as good as new. The seats are the all black cloth with the Porsche script. All is for sale.

ronin 12-24-2003 01:33 PM

hmmm, I do need some parts. I'll make a list. do you have the seats? I'll let you now if I need a new micro for the back when I take it apart (probably Friday)
