Porsche: We need to order it from the company will take 1 week or more mom: Ok Me: Danm it. Anyone think that a bolt + o-ring will be a sutable replacement for the Radiator drain plug for a week? Wouldn't really try that....
1. Pressurized system 2. PLASTIC fitting 3. Metal can strip plastic real easy If I really, really, really HAD to......I might try the bolt and o-ring thing but very, very carefully.

The plastic drain does not seal against the radiator. It's the o-ring around it that does the sealing. Don't overtighten it.

You will have to excuse my timid nature on this topic. I am a great believer in creative thinking/engineering.... (never used socks though)
That said.... I have a great respect for and fear of my radiator. All of the Ooops's that I have read about make me cringe. Ruining a perfectly good, expensive part with the simple turn of a wrench....Yikes.

My torque wrench slipped it's setting when I was re-attaching the rocker cover onto my S2, now half of a bolt is snapped off inside! P-garage said they'll do something with a helicore in the new year.
One turn too many and its game over in many cases...

Never remove the radiator drain plug, always take the lower hose off.

Now the temp switch is another matter. I agree. Take the hose off even if the flow is a bit unpredictable.
