Route 60 in North Georgia... AWSOME!

All I can say is WOW.... here's a link, hope it works to let you see the road we were on yesterday..... http://navigator2.maptech.com/homepage/index.cfm?lat=34%2E721911&lon=%2D84%2E068738&type=1&scale=100000&zoom=50&icon=0& My friend came along in his Audi A4 Avante Quattro (with the 200 hp 30v V6) lowered with 17x8s and had no problem keeping with me on the twisties, which was mostly in 3rd gear. He thought the acceleration and handling was about the same, although he had way more rubber than me, and that my biggest advantage was in braking (i think that's the 944's weaker area and he had ABS). Real life... I left the road once after coming into a corner at about 90 mph, hesitated in downshifting from 4th to 3rd because I had to think about matching rev's at that speed, and big mistake... luckily the occasional car or motorcycles we saw were not coming at that time. Just tire smoke and dust and dirt flying, no harm done, but definately was a good learning experience. My friends thoughts at the time were, that he thought he wasn't gonna be able to stop in time, and thought he'd plow into me as I braked to enter the corner, a very sharp right, at that time I thought too much about the downshift at 90mph, corner was on me faster than I thought, downshifted too late, hit the brakes, and I slid out of his way as his ABS took over and got him thru the corner. All and all he was very impressed with the lil 944 that he had negative opinions of before. He thought he would be able to out run me... not. Anyway... killer road and great day... here's a pic of my car on the Ocoee in southeastern tennessee after my friend split off and headed home to deal with the kids.

Man...that looks like it was a blast...I would have met up with you guys but I was home in PA all week. I've never done Route 60 but there are tons of roads I've found since I've been in GA/SC for the past three years. I'd love to get together some weekend and drive some...drop a line if you..or anyone in the area is in the mood.

Erik
