1984 944 roof latch fix
One of the roof latch "fingers" that lock down the back side of the sunroof was broken when I bought my 1984 944. Be aware that 1984 944 has the 924 interior and therefor the cables/gearbox/fingers are all one sealed unit i.e., you can not open the gearbox and the cables are press fitted. Trust me I opened up the interior of the car to find a white plastic gearbox that cannot be opened. Yes I know this is a odd item to break and I don't know how it happened but it leaks and whistles and I just want to get it fixed.
So I think my options are: 1. Replace the whole unit (fingers-cables-motor) with one out of a junked 944 (has anyone done this?) 2. Is there any way to convert to non electric manual hold downs? Thanks |

I have a S2. The sunroof gear boxes are very easy to open for changing gears and teethed metal bar. The box's cover is held by 6 screws and another 2 bolts hold the box to roof. The plastic gear is white. The gear box is black. If the cable looks and runs good, you don't need to change it at all.
The latch on the sunroof panel is easy to take off too, but will cost about $25 for a new one. |
