Ask 10 people about oils and you'll get 10 different answers. Any name brand is just fine. I do not like the PA grade oils because I think they leave more sludge - at least they did years ago in an old Ford beater I had. Maybe it was the beater, not the oil.

If you run the car on the track or autocross, I would use synthetic. But it has a greater propensity to find a place to leak out.

As far as brands go, everybody's got a favorite. I read a consumer reports article about 4 years ago on oils. They ran different brands in NYC cabs for 150K per car. They could find NO measurable difference between any of the 20 or so brands they tested. If you're going with dino juice, get any reputable name brand oil. I used to use mobil, quaker state, pennzoil, castrol GTX, whichever one was on sale. Of course, somebody will strongly disagree with me, and say one or more of those i mentioned are *****.

now for grade, definetly go with the manufacturer's reccomendations in the back of the owner's manual. If your engine is high miles, and you're right on the line between grades, pick the thicker one.

For filters, i use the Mahle filters. I think most people do. They are the OEM filters. If it was good enough for the engine designers, it's good enough for me.

I use the Mobil 1 red cap...that's the sae 15w-50 stuff...Never had a problem with it and no leaks...but...that's what the original owner used and it is expensive. What I mean is that if they've used dino juice and you switch right to these you really may get leaks...if that's the case try a blend first and then maybe go the full synthetic...I guess it has something to do with the oil seals acclimating to the type...

I use mobile 1 in my '86 951, 60 some thousand miles and use Quaker State semi-synthethic in my '86 NA 944 daily driver (10w40 winter and 20w50 summer), it has 202,000 miles and oil pressure is 5 bar on start up and 4 bar driving and 3 bar idling. Same as when it had 70,000 miles.

I use mobile 1 in the 951 mainly because it has a turbo.
