Either your DME Relay or your solenoid is shot/in the process of dying.

Cannot be DME relay. You can remove this relay and engine will still crank.
(good idea when doing compression test) Probable cause is either bad starter motor, no power to starter from ignition switch or possibly battery/cable problem. Check the ground strap to engine too, especially if you had a clutch job done recently. |
Hey Britwrench,
Do you know if a bad DME relay can cause a cold-start problem? My '89 944S2 takes about four sessions of cranking before it finally fires when cold. When warm, it takes about two tries. Could it also be (or more likely be) dirty injectors or a weak coil? Thanks in advance! |
Cebu, I think it's your check vale on the fuel pump. The gas is going back to your gas tank. You might need a new pump. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/biggrin.gif

The Dme should be replaced every 4 years or so as it causes all sorts of running and starting problems. You will have to make some basic checks on your S2 before replacing any parts.
1. check fuel pressure when cold 2. check compression/leakdown 3. check condition of all ignition parts. If it runs rough from cold start for a few seconds, check and maybe replace the coolant temp sensor and check operation of the O2 sensor. Regarding the fuel pump..if the pump was not running, how would it stop engine cranking? |
Found the cause..Faulty starter (OEM)1985.5 8/85 944na.
