Post Overheating

Well my car has been getting up to 3/4 heat lately. With my AC on and 100°+ outside. My pumps are working and i have coolent/water. I am looking to buy water wetter. Is there anything I should be looking at? Last summer in heat (less than this) i was staying at 1/4 with the AC on.

when was the last time you did a c-system flush?

The ac condensor sits in front of the radiator. (A trubo, like your has even more stuff up front that I am not familiar with.) Both the radiator and condensor are prone to collecting a lot of bugs and other misc debri. Have you done a good pressure type wash to make sure the vanes are clear.

I havn't done a flush or a pressure wash in a while. What do you mean by doing a pressure wash? Like those pay ones and just spray the crap outta the front of the car?

Check to see if your cooling fans are kicking on. A connection came loose on my n/a and it was constantly getting too warm.

My fans seem to be working. Just replaced the fan switch not to long ago.

Depending on the machine, that might be too much pressure and may damage things. I'm thinking about the pressure wand at a coin op car wash. Spray it thru the front opening or from the back side. Should do a good job of removing any bug/gunk buildup and thus allow more air thru. I would also do a good system flush. This may not be the fix but it's worth a try.

Then I wouldn't worry too much about it, mine does the same thing. Long as it doesn't go up and hit redline. If it gets up to the 3/4 and then comes back down to the 1/2, then you're probably safe.

But take a look from the front. When you look between the slots up front, you see the AC condenser...the fins on all mine are pushed over and mashed (the cost of hitting bugs at 100). Anyone know how hard it is to replace the A/C Condenser??

Goku - it's also a possibility that your radiator needs to be replaced. They do get corroded and after time, just don't function like they used to.

Question

The 944 radiator will clog up if it isn't maintained. To test if your rad is clogged, run the engine until it's hot then turn it off. CAREFULLY disconnect the fan electric plugs. Now you can feel the radiator. If any part of it feels cool to the touch, you are probably not getting hot coolant to that part and that section is clogged. Changing the radiator is relatively easy. Just remember to remove the top radiator mounts before you remove the bottom mounts and slide the old radiator out.

That's an easy fix. There is a tool called a radiator comb, it's made in several spacings for different radiators and condensors. Just go down to a shop that has body working tools available and ask for one. They're only about $15 and last forever. It functions just like a comb, just takes a while depending on how many bugs died a sudden kinetic death.
