Fan won't shut off.

My fan keeps running when car is off and engine is cold. Fan kilt batre so I pulled both fan fuses and jumpstarted it. Could I have a bad thermostat switch? And is it easy to replace if that is indeed my prob.

Same thing happened to me...but it stopped on its own. Pull the ac relay and see what happens (Hugh -SoCal mentioned this), but when I was going to mess with it, the fan would not come on 'all by itself' anymore.....leaving me more confused.....

I had this problem it was the cooling fan relay. PN 944.615.113.01

I replaced that and it fixed the problem. Don't purchase from a dealership! I was in a bind and paid 45.00 + tax for the relay. You can get it on the net for less than 20.00

Where? Is this the relay that went into the nbr slot on the relay board? Or nbr 3?? What year is (was) your car that had this problem? I need that relay, too....

Ok...this is different....I was looking at relay 944 615 113 01 because that is the one that is in my nbr slot, NOT the 253 B relay...which I did find for $3.25, also

It's the 944 615 113 01 relay that I need.....

Yeah it was the 944.615.113.01 that I replaced.

Try www.partsamerica.com they have 2 different Beck/Arnley 1 for 12.99 and one for 16.99 not very descriptive.

www.***********.com has 3 used for $20, new for $33, and genuine for $38.

www.9parts.com Has it for $41

www.drivewire.com $38

www.autopartsworld.com $37

www.cherry-auto.com has a new one for $32

www.importedcarparts.com $30

www.carpartsamerica.com $14

There are a few that I have gotten off of Google. I thought they were a bit cheaper. I looked the price up after I bought mine from the dealership. I might have been looking at the wrong relay. I hope what I have looked up helps you.

Just checked with a mechanic (I told him my prob and he said 944 right? Smart mechanic). He said to put the fuses back in when engine is cold then see if the fans come back on. If so then he said to pull the wire to the thermo-fan switch off. He said the relay gets its power from that. If the fans go off it is the thermo-switch (951.606.481.00 and like $10), if not then it is the relay. I'll go out and check this tonight and keep you posted.

When mine did that recently, it was the thermoswitch. But I think I had to plug the replacement switch into the connector before the fans would go off, though (did that to be sure it wasn't the relay before taking things apart to remove the faulty switch). Pretty easy job - I recommend you don't try to do it without removing the fan assembly, though. I wasted a bunch of time trying to avoid what turned out to be 5 minutes of work.

It has to be the thermo-switch. I took the easy way out and drove to my friends house who has a 944S2 cab as well and swapped out the relays. Didn't solve the problem. So I'm at 900 miles from needing my timing belt adjusted/checked and thinking of just having the dealer replace the switch. Unless you can convince me the thermo-switch is easy to replace.

Well, got back last night from Memphis and a weekend of working on the 944.

It was the thermo switch AND the relay.....The relay was not doing its job, replaced it and it was then.......but the thermoswitch would not come on when should. It was late so the only one I could find was at auto zone, and it was the stock temp one; they didn't have the lower temp which is what I wanted..Bought that and put it in.....pretty simple, but have to remove the fan housing to get a socket on the switch. Fan comes on at the 3/4th mark, not the 1/2 way mark like with the lower temp switch, but this should be fine for the winter.....

FIXED

Drained the coolant a bit, removed the splash pan, dropped the radiator fans, then removed the thermo switch. Put new switch in and replaced all, put in fan fuses and bingo....fan not on anymore. No more draining my battery

Switch is much cheaper than the relay for the S2.

a tip: I notched my fan shroud to get socket in; easier than removal of shroud

of course, I wasn't feeling that smart 3 weeks later when I had to drop shroud anyway to replace a locked-up fan!

Change your three bladed fans for the newer six bladed fans. They have sealed front bearings that don't seize up. Ebay seems to have sets pop up now and then. Get the wire harness with the plugs too. Splice it into the older harness.

ahead of you there; I replaced with 6-bladed. Except for the connectors having a strange angle on it; old harness matched up
