Post Filter brands?

I am thinking of getting a oil filter at Advance auto parts just cause they stock them and its handy. They have purolator brand . Anyone used them? I normally use Mahle or Dutusch (spellig ?)brand. Anyone use purolator? are they OK?

Got one on now. Put it on about 5oo miles ago. Can't see any difference. Used Mobil 1 before.

I use the Mahle filter. If it was good enough for the factory designers, it's good enough for me. If you buy a few at one time, you can get them for around $5.00 ea. I buy them 4 at a time, and when i use up the last one, i order more.

There are several sites out there that review oil filters. I would like to see one that compares actual particle filtering ability, but i haven't found a good one yet.

Here's a good page that covers all three of the filters you are talking about.

Here's another one from the same site, but doesn't cover the mahle filter. BUT, it does have pictures of what they all look like inside.

After reading all that, i'd never buy a fram filter. The build quality is terrible.

Mike

P.s. I've always used Mahle for the 944. But I started researching filters so i could find a good one for my 325i.

Fram filters suck!

I go with Mahle. I remember reading somewhere that the Mobil 1 and K & N are identical. Just the price varies.

I normally order 3 or more at a time of the Mahle brand but am out. I have 2 cars. I was just thinking about buying a purolator cause the local place stocks them. I have used a Dutusch and no problem. It is just convientient to get the purolator but I can order another supply of Mahle Monday no problem. Just no reason to if Purolator is OK bacially same price. I didn't see any diff with the Dutucsh it was like $2 . I might have the speelling a little wrong on the name. Got it at an auto Zone.

mike944, is it an e36 325i? If so, you're going to have a hard time finding any other brand of filter that will fit, since the e36 325 has a replaceable filter insert instead of a regular filter like other cars. You can usually find these Mahle filters on ebay for $17.50 for a pack of 5.

WIX, worked for them about 30 yrs ago. They private labeled a lot of filters, WIX & AC had tightest QC specs.

I use Mahle fuel & air on wife's 924t because with there place of manufacture & looks Mahle makes these for WIX.

I think Mahle bought Purolator's European filter brand or vice versa, so these two may be the same filter.

Going to check Mike's suggested sites, Dana bought WIX but I bet their quality is still top.
