My Windows always work even when the key is out! I'm ordering a new relay as a starting point. I'm just wondering if anyone ever had this problem. Does the relay allow power to the windows for a period of time after the key is removed to allow the driver to roll up the window if they forgot? When I remove and reinsert the relay, the windows do not go down or up again until I turn the key on, then I have the same problem |

Your power windows will work even after the key is out, but you haven't yet opened the door. This is normal, and actually a pretty neat design (how many times have you removed the keys from the ignition and left the windows down and then said, 'Doh!')
If you can still work the windows after you've opened the door, then that's not normal. -Z-man. ------------------ My toy: http://www.pelicanparts.com/gallery/Z-man |

The door interior light switch interrupts power to the power windows relay after ignition sw. is in the off position. Test: operate power window after turning ignition off, window operates..open and close door and attempt to operate power window, should not operate until ignition switch is turn to acc. or on.

According to my manual, as long as the DRIVERS side door is opened, the windows should still work whether the key is in or not. That's how my 87 N/A works.
