Post College mate talking trash

I have a guy I goto college with who apparently thinks his Chrysler Conquest TSI can beat my 951. His Conquest has 14psi boost, computer upgrades, exhaust, waste gate, and timing mods. My car is a 87 951 with 47k miles, Huntley Stage 3 MAF, and Chips, Running 12psi boost. The reason for such low boost is beacause my clutch is slipping a little. Do you think I can take him still with the slipping clutch? Should i say hell with it crank the boost up and race him on the slipping clutch? How can I adjust my clutch so it grips better.

Thanks guys

it's hard to say whether or not he could run with you (or even beat you). don't make the mistake of underestimating a car's speed if you haven't driven it or seen it run. there are tons of cars out on the road that don't look fast but are. he stands the best chance beating you in a short race as opposed to a long high-speed run. i have no idea if his is one of them...with his mods it's possible, or then again it could be a pitiful one-sided affair.

it sounds to resemble a Eagle Talon which of course is alos made by Chrysler, if this is so, i have never been in a 951, but at the least he will give you a run for your money.

Part of the rush is racing him w/o knowing the outcome. So I say do it.

What is a conquest? what year? what kind of engine and size? How much HP does that car make stock and about what would it weigh??

A slipping clutch may not do to well in a 951 when racing. I don't think you can adjust it, sounds like its worn out and may need replaced, someone correct me if I am wrong about the clutch.

Thumbs up

I have a Conquest advertisement in front of me now (87) they don't even compare it to a 951 but they do the 300ZX and the RX-7, the Conquest has a 2.6 liter and 0-50 is 5.53, the RX-7 is 5.73 and the 300ZX is 6.27, while there is a article on the 944 turbo the 0-50 is 4.1 flat in the same mag. I can say that I have a chipped 86 951 (I don't want to sound a street racer) and there are a couple of the old Conquest running around...they can't hold a candle to the 951 as I have had a couple of duels with most I have run against.

My clutch isen't to bad. I can still lay a patch in 2nd, its just the higher gears when I speed shift. There is only 47k on this clutch. The conquest TSI's are 190HP from the factory, so he's probably pushing around 230-240HP im guesing?? I let you know of the results, maybe video tape it.

Don't knock the Daytona. I have the first black on black Turbo Z, 1984. Stock, it had 176hp. Unfortunately I caught it on fire, but before that it dynoed out at 336hp at the wheels. I was running the Direct Connection goodies, Super 60 kit, Garrett BB Turbo, 5th injector, 20psi boost, and the suspension to match. There is no way in hell my Chipped coulden't touch it, straight or curved.

Now, I don't think there would be a problem.

Even if you loose, you win. You still get to drive away in a Porsche, and no matter what he has in it it's still a Dodge.

The Conquest was a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi Starion Turbo. They looked kinda cool for their day...a lot of tire crammed under those blister flares. If I remember road tests of the day, they were pretty crude in the handling department.

there IS a performance segment of that market... Incredible HP is possible - remember - that is the car (basically) that the 944 balance shaft design was ripped from... Of course, the conquest/starion ripped the body from the 944.

Tell you what - I like the rear suspension setup on that car. Better than the 944.

"... that the 944 balance shaft design was ripped from..."

Well, not quite. The original balance shaft design was English (from the Lancaster WWII planes). It's just that Mits had the patent/manufacturing rights to the design. However, when originally designing the 944 engine, Porsche did not like the Japanese engineering (they felt it was very rough at higher rpms). The resulting 944 engine is owes just as much to the Brits as to the Japanese. But, to the best of my knowledge the Japanse had the (current?) patent.
