you may want to hold onto that 951 given that it is almost impossible to increase the power of the 968 without at least $1000+ for cams

Better yet, part out the 968, keeping the drivetrain. Then convert the 951 to a 3.0 turbomonster with a 6speed.

love the look of the 968, especially the front end, but don't like it's power limitations. but they're very nice cars nonetheless.

turbo it. :-)

Wouldn't touch the 968 block with a 10-foot pole. Its an open deck design with significantly less strength than the 951 unit.

The Honda guys have the same problem, but fortunatly there are so many turbo Hondas, people have developed relatively economical "block guards" to prevent the bores from moving around too much.

For a serious 3.0 turbo I believe the best route to take would be to bore the 951 2.5 to 2.7 and then stuff the 3.0 (2.8 actually) crank in for a total of 3.0L.

for the 968 turbo s & cs, didn't porsche use the 968 3.0 block? or was it a bored-out 951 block?

Here is a question for you guys that I don't think anyone has asked before. Could a 951 engine be put in a 968? You could have the best of both worlds that way, looks and power!

Blackfoot - I believe the 968 turbo block was actually a bored 951 unit as the motor still had the 8-valve head. There were differences though as the 968 turbo did have piston squirters.

Chris Cervelli (technodyne) uses this 968 turbo block along with a 2.7 head from an N/A for his scary 3.0L 951. I doubt a non-block guarded 968 block could take that kind of abuse!

Does anyone have pictures of an open-deck and a closed-deck blocks? I thought that the 944 used open-deck.

I was unclear in my statement. By drivetrain, I meant the torque-tube and tranny would go in the 951. I would steal the crank from the 968 but that's all. I agree with you Erick that the 2.5 block is the way to go. BTW, the turbo should be here on Wednesday.

Both cars are in perfect condition, RIGHT?? If they are, there is no reason that either one should be canibalized to the benefit of the other one until something goes awry and can't be repaired. At least, that is my opininon.
