Is it me, or are the majority of Boxster owners stuck-up douchebags??? Pulled into the gas station the other day, was a Boxster in there fueling up. Gave the guy a friendly hello, asked him how he liked the car. He looks at me says real arrogantly "Its a Porsche, why shouldnt I ?" I pointed to my '44 told him yeah i love mine too. He looks at it and say's what is that?? Bewildered, I was like " a 944 " the jerkoff looks at it all confused and gives a smirk , says" oh that must be one of those old ones". and turns away. I wanted to go kick him in his Docker wearin butt.
What the deal with these Boxster guys?

the question answers itself. he's obviously someone that has no clue about what he's driving other than the fact that it has a Porsche badge. probably couldn't even find the engine if he had to

lol. "wait. wait. trunk in the front, trunk in the back... SOMEONE STOLE MY ENGINE!"
yeah, you figure that most people that buy new Porsches (except GT3s and Carrera GTs, you know, the esoteric special models) buy them for the status, the name, and couldn't give a damn about tradition or quality or the Porsche world. Most enthusiasts that I've met drive a Porsche that is 10+ years old.

Tsk! What a wanker! It's not like he had anything truly exotic to crow about - stick a Toyota badge on those things and most folk couldn't tell the difference. The silhouette of a 944, on the other hand , is unmistakeable to anyone halfway knowledgable. Sounds like he was one of those 'nouveau riche owners'. You should have asked him how much it cost his daddy to insure it.

You should ask to see his engine. Or ask if he maintains it himself.
I rarely get waves from other Porsche or 944 drivers and I just don't care anymore. I like my car and that is it. BTW, 914 owners will always flash. On the Datsun Z boards, 240/60/80 Z owners compain about 350Z drivers being jerkoffs. See the trend. I'm going on vacation to sunny Boca Raton, FL to visit my folks tomorrow. They just bought a yellow 01 996 cab a few months ago. I'll give it a test drive and flash every 924/944 I see and tell yall how many actually flash back.

He obviously doesn't understand the passion behind the legend. These people don't deserve such appointments. There is no excuse for ignorance or arogance. I would have been extremely pissed and expressed it in a way that would make him stop and think about what kind of man he is.
I feel your anger.

![]() There's one boxster owner in our region group, and he's most notable the only stand-up boxster owner i've ever met. It's sad that other boxster owners give the one in a billion guy like him a bad rap. Anyhow, it's true that most people can't tell a 944 from any other 944-imitation car until you're up close or you see the ass-end with the big "Porsche" red light on the back (imho i like the large red light better). But those that own porsches and don't flash back... GR @ them. I like to go to the PCA meetings and be like "i saw so-and-so's car and gave them the friendly flash/wave and they didnt do it back." and watch said member sulk.

actually, this reminds me of Jordan Greene, a kid i used to know.
we were friends long ago, and on more than one occasion i heard him call me "poor" and i lived in the ghetto (which happened to only be a couple blocks from his house) but since my house wasn't two story (<-wtf?!) my family was poor. anyway, his dad owned a boxster, and the funny thing was how he cared more about the car (and money) more than his kids/wife. like father, like son. JG also always bragged how his dad's car was a "Porsche", now i think it's funny, because at the time i didn't know that boxsters are the LOW END of the Porsche line up. I'm sure the only reason he owned it was because it was labeled with the coveted P word.

on a side note, do the boxster owners on the boxster part of this forum fill the description of a "typical" boxster owner?

Wow. What a goof - I'd be willing to bet that he never changes his own oil. I had a similar experience last summer with a stuck up-looking guy and his trophy wife in a BMW Z-4. After being friendly and trying to ask him how he liked it, he egotistically replied: "what can I say - they don't call it the ultimate driving machine for nothing". Knowing that this guy was just a new money snob, I asked: "Oh, cool. By the way - what is its displacement?"
"Uh, I........don't........know." "Nice". However, save a thought for a number of guys that are former 944 owners and just made an "upgrade" to a newer Porsche. I pulled up to my spot in a car show a ways back here in Pittsburgh, and a brand new Boxster pulled up along side of me. The guy was a few years older than me and said: "Hey, is that a 944S? I had one of those way back and I really miss it!" Later in the afternoon, I saw that same guy standing next to the car and staring at it, with a nostalgic grin on his face. No explaining needed. |

Be nice to that guy!
Someone just like him bought our 944s new, which enables us to buy them used. I hope he takes good care of his Boxster. I may own it some day. |

Materialistic people make me mad!
Materialistic people with money scare me! Money = power + materialism = a broken messed up world. Not everyone with money is materialistic. "Be nice to that guy!?" I think not. Take that car away from him he doesn't deserve it. Most Porsche owners that I have met have been extremely pleasant. It shouldn't be a social status or an icon. It is simply a love. Love is what matters. Some people have worked hard to aquire what they have. Those people better appreciate the value of something. Those that have things givin to them while being fed with a silver spoon just don't give a ***** about anything. Just because someone ownes a limited edition Lamborgini does not make them a better person. Just more finacially sound.

About 9/10 of the Boxster drivers around here seem to be female and I have never once seen them even glance at my car...

I know of 3 people in my area (60 mile radius) with Porsches.
One 914, the guy's cool and got me interested in Porsches, which made me buy my 944 One 944, but it's a garage queen. I've seen it on the road once, flashed and got flashed back. One 911, owned by a doctor. I pulled up next to him at a stop light one day, not trying to race or anything, and waved, but got only a blank stare. So, 2 out of 3 isn't too bad... geeze... i really do live in the middle of nowhere. ack

I get a lot of both. Most of the older cars will wave/flash, but I get a few of those token doctors that bought the car new in 1987 (when the 911 was THE car to own) and only drive it on weekends. They wouldn't know a 944 from a RX7, a or a 914 from a Triumph TR7.

I have had a Boxster for 5 years. I know what a 944 is. It was that car made by VW/Audi but sold under the Porsche name.

Good job it has Boxster on the back - I thought it was a Toyota at first blush.

I am getting really annoyed at this VW/Audi BS! Lets start from the begining.....First P car made was a DIRECT DESIGN of the VW and it is called the.....911. Look at the early VW and the early 911 see any thing identical??!! The whole body and engine design to be exact!
Now for our 924/944 cars....yes the early 924 was a VW/Audi design but Porsche was the designer for VW. So who is copying who?! The change in engine design is PURELY PORSCHE hence the 944 na motor. It does have some external comparisons but not the same none the less and was not engineered by VW/Audi or anyone else! The 944 is it's own design made by Porsche period! The 924S is also a pure Porsche in the exception of body design....Big Deal- Body Design! The only matter there is looks and aerodynamics. The rest is PURE PORSCHE!!!!! Now for our Boxster owners they are driving a car designed after the 356 which is a later Karman Ghia design so VW copied that design I believe. But IMHO the Boxster is mainly owned by "Wine and Cheesers", professionals that want a Porsche for status reasons that and it is the cheapest new Porsche one can buy. Many Porsche owners have NO CLUE what they have. All they think is I own a Porsche and that is nothing but an ego trip. There are however Boxster owners who do know what they have and are not in it for the ego but for the pleasure of owning a reasonable $ Porsche. Let the FLOGGING BEGIN! Sman
