Post O2 sensor-how many wires-air fuel meter 951

I am getting an air fuel meter for my 86 951. Before I crawl under and realize there might be more than one wire, can someone tell me if there is more than one wire on the O2 sensor. And if so, which is power, ground, and signal. I found a very small meter about the size of two posatge stamps from an australian company for $40.

John

John,
Unless you live in California, you probably have a single wire O2 sensor which is connected to a single (signal) lead that is covered by a braided shield. Your meter should connect directly to the signal wire of the O2 sensor. You'll probably have to find an independent 12V source and ground location. Out of interest, where exactly are you purchasing the a/f device from? Is it numerical or LED?
Thx,
Scott

Should be three wires on your year. Two whites for the heating element. And one larger black wire which is your signal wire. You don't need to crawl under the car however as the connector is right on a bracket attached to the intake manifold and the very rear. There are three connectors there two for the flywheel reference sensors and one for the O2. I bridged my Air/Fuel meter in right there.

Agree with above post, strip the covering back where it connects at the back of the engine compartment, hook into the black signal wire, you will have to have a ground, then a 12v source with key on, and then one to one of your fuel injector pulse/signal wire. If your buying the LR one, they have instructions on the web site, if from Huntley, make sure you ask for the instruction sheet.

The meter is from an Australian company called Lascar Electronics and is distributed by an australian website that deals mainly in japanese cars. The site stills has a lot of great technical info that relates to many cars especially turbo's. The meter is liquid crystal needle, not led nor numerical. I dont't want a round face gauge because I don't want a gauge cluster in my face or down where I have to take my eyes off the road. I saw a nice numerical led from the gadgetseller, but I think it was $70 to $100. This one is nice and small and only $40US. Here it is http://www.autospeed.com/A_0959/P_2/article.html

Here is a second article on the meter

The Bosch part number for the three wire is 13913 and you will have to splice your connector to it.

Thanks for the info. Need some more. I don't know much about electrical. Where can I splice in the ground and 12 volt for the meter.

Where are you mounting the meter? I have a flat panel from Lindsey racing and it's below the radio in the old storage area. So I have +12 piggy back from the radio, also the ground from the radio.

I will try to mount it up high like where the speedo is. All I need is a 5 milimeter hole. It is only about 1 1/2" long by 1" wide and 1/8" deep. It measures voltage from zero to 1. Here it is

It is the analog lcd one. Inexpensive.stock #ema 1710 if you want to click the datasheet at the top of the page.
