1984 sunroof

Help guys:
I cannot get my sunroff back on. I took it off for an autocross and when I went to put it back on I heard the motor grind a little and the arms that control the sunroof would not retract all the way. I have done this a million times but this is the first time I have heard the motor grind. I simply do not know how to adjust the momentary swiches on the end of the cable. I loosened the Number 2 switch and got the thing to come all the way in but now it won't stop in the right position for lock...I looked up the online tech report on this but it is only for the new model 944 not the eaarly. Any help would be appreciated...
