Get keys cut?
 

I Broke my key, now I only have 1. I went to the dealer to get a second, but they dont cut them, they only sell the blanks. I cant find ANYONE to cut me one, because they are steel!They said(everyone i checked with) it chews up the blades in the key machine.

I cant get GErmany to make me one, because its $45 and they wont gaurantee it because the PO may have had it rekeyed ( i dont have the original keys)

Anyone have any ideas?

I would think any small hardware store would do it. Home Depot won't, I tried getting mine done there.

I bought the blank from Pelican, and had it cut at one of those key cutting kiosks in the mall...

hum, i tried about 10 places, was going to try lowes. Ill try the Mall next.

Get this, I went to lowes, they wouldnt do it. So i went accross the street to Home Depot. There was a guy who didnt speak good English to help me use his key machine. Used the Audi/VW plate, and it cut the key!!!

Thanks goodness for Home Depot, no one else would do it around here.

Home depot would make one using their generic blank...I thought you had a key blank already. Sorry for the confusion there.

Home depot wouldn't cut the key blank I bought from Pelican...

I had the same problems trying to get a key cut, no one would do it. They really aren't suppose to cut steel keys on those machines so the trick is finding someone who doesn't know that! I finally got it done at a Mall Kiosk by some girl who looked like she really didn't know what she was doing! But hey it works!

Go to a professional locksmith, not Home Depot, a hardware store, or a mall...they'll just f&$%k it up. I got 2 new keys cut a few weeks ago, it cost a bit more (I think $10 for 2 keys) but they're steel, they work, and they're guaranteed. My locksmith even ke-keyed a door cylinder for me for free....uses the same tabs as a VW or a 924. I don't trust any of my locks to anyone but a registered pro. Good thing there's one close by.

i lost me only key to the car once... so i took the drivers side door handle to a lock smith and he cut me a key from a blank that he had... if you could get your hands on someones lock cylinder and take it to a lock smith you could have a $45 944 hehe

But to get a lock cylinder in serviceable condition, you would have to:

1. Bypass the vehilce's security system
2. Gain entry to the car
2. Remove the door panel
3. Disconnect the linkage

Or use a pick axe and a hammer and end up in the pokey.

A professional locksmith will be bonded and insured.

1) cut the battery line
2) pop the hatch
3) open the door and remove the screw that holds the handle on
4) pop the handle off from the outside

just depends on if you do your research on the car you want first :-) not all cars have power locks and an alarm.
