				 | 944s stalling
I recently got my first Porsche, What a GREAT car! but, with one small problem, It dies for no apparent reason while at an idle or driving down the road. While in the garage the engine will miss right before it dies. while driving you can pop the clutch and it will start like nothing happened. Ive changed the fuel filter, no help can anyone help??? Thanks

Could well be the heavy grounds from the engine to the firewall need cleaning / replacing / supplementing. Often a huge source of electrical misery. Battery leads also suffer too - even though they often look fine externally.

Welcome.... I would go through the whole engine bay looking for suspect or "loose" wires. Start with the simple first then post again if that doesn't work.

The DME relay could also be suspect. These relays have a very fine copper wire wrapping around a core to make an electomagnet. When the magnet gets a signal it makes contact with points similar to ignition points on an older car. Two things can happen; the points can eventually corrode making contact intermittant and finally not at all; and the fine copper wire wrapping can corrode, thereby making the electomagnet non functional at the time the wire actually corrodes all the way through. I took a 1983 928 relay apart just to take a look, and I was surprised to see the fine mist of corrosion all over when I looked closely. Older relays need to be changed out for this reason. The 928 relay was in control of the electronic fuel injection system, and it started acting up, and finally died. It's when they are dying a slow death that they make diagnosis a real problem. Therefore if the car is an older model, go ahead and change out the relay now. Here is a thread of similar nature for your reference. http://forums1.roadfly.org/porsche/forums/924-944-968/forum.php?postid=4439601&page=1 Regards, P
