Post Can't take the sunroof off

I've been wondering about this ever since i got my car. I've read the manual several times. The sunroof can pop up but i can't take the damn thing off. I know how to take it off but the mechanism won't unlock even at the position the factory says the key should be at. Is there a short? loose wire? electrical problem????? I'd like to find out before I go autocrossing again this weekend.

Your microswitches are probably not working correctly. Theres has been many post on how to adjust them if you do a search. On the other hand if you want the quick way i just raise my sunroof and pull the supports in while pushing the sunroof in the other direction and it comes right off. Crude... but effective.

Good luck in you autocross this weekend. I'm looking forward to my first autox in 2 months on labor day.

In the front center of the roof there is a hole there that looks like something is missing. Is that what you are talking about?

that is probably your problem, try pushing up in the hole to the left of the tab, that's where the sensor switch is

Mine had the same problem, but with an additional twist, the clutch on the motor was slipping. (Yes, there is a clutch on it.) After checking the microswitch at the front, I started checking the motor and limit switches in the back. Reset the clutch back to the proper tension and reset the limit switches, no more problem.

ok i'm seriously lost...you have to excuse me guys but i am stupid when it comes to the sunroof on this car. I wanna figure out why the sunroof doesn't unlock from the rear when i depress the switch in the first ignition position..... never really noticed this problem before because i didn't want the sunroof off until i saw a couple 944s goin targa top downtown.

Go to the tech articles section; there is a great post about sunroof operation.

When you take the cover off to get to the sunroof "stuff", you will see two limit switches on top. The bottom one is for the sunroof to stop at close, the top one is the one that may need adjustment to let your roof know to "open". The front tab on your sunroof also functions as a open/close contact. I've heard of people doing away with this switch and butt splicing it.

AT worst case it could be your ignition switch or sunroof switch, since you have to be at position one to take the roof out, but not likely.

Good luck
