more door stuff

once I loosen the allen head bolts, how much do I have to move the pin, typicaly, to achieve proper door opening results? It's on my '86. I almost flew off the handle (pun intended) today cuz it wouldn't let me in. It was always a little sticky, but this is the first time a gentle lift wouldn't opensezame. I moved the pin around in various positions about 1mm in each/several directions with none being really better than the other. (except out. out was bad.) If I leave it loose, will it sort of "line up" itself. Then me open it and tighten the bolts? I'm not real hopeful, but stranger things have happened.

I did that last year on my 924. Although, I also replaced the cylindrical pins in the hing! (OBSERVE, they ONLY goes out one way. If the pins dont come easily out, try the other way. The most likely way, isnt always the correct one.) After the replacement I adjusted the door with the allen screws. (At the hings) WHen the door was centered I adjusted the pin I think you are talking about. TO be honest, I found it quite hard and small adjustments really made big diffrence. But I would never try to losen it and then close the door so its self adjusts. It could get stuck.
Patient, I would recomend ;-)

If I used my door as an airbrake, and were it to be ripped off at the hinges, I'm talking about the piece that would still be on the car.

I use my doors as air brakes all the time. They still shut cleanly even after that darn bicyclist got in the way.

If you pop the trunk and put that up does it slow you down at all? You know, wouldn't want to wear out the doors.

I don't. It has a tendency to lift the front wheels off the ground. Really messes with the steering.

Guess I need to put the old VW dune buggy rear wheel steering brake levers on it.
