Sad, how some people just keep their cars garaged up

There is this house just down the street from me and they own a guards red 944 cab, it looks really sweet, but i have only ever seen the ass end of it because all it ever does is sit in their garage. It has never once been out in about a year and a half, This makes me sad. These cars are ment to be driven even if you have a mint cond. car. That beast is just waiting to break out and show his owner some power and enjoyment, but the owner just keeps it locked up in the garage....Hmmm if only i weren't 17 maye i'd go down the street and ask to buy the car. Then i'd take it for a drive. Anyone else know of any 944's like this? caged up?

The only other (running) 944 in my area has been sitting in a garage forever. It's not even in perfect condition. The one time I saw it driving around I noticed a largish dent on the drivers side door. I think he's just saving the car for his son to drive someday.

Yup its a sad thing. This guy down the road has a sweet ass 944 turbo. My mother watches the house when he is gone, He always has a cover on it and I havent seen it leave the garage since I have known he had it witch is like for 3 years. I got the balls to take a look one day and it looks like it just came off the show room floor. Bright and shinny gaurds red with a awsome black interior. It really is my dream car but I could never afford it. But that lucky old guy just lets it sit, as I bit my nails wishing it would come out and play

Pretty sad story indeed. I've lived in this location for 9 1/2 years. Around the corner sits a sweet 951, black on who knows, (probably not even the owner) covered somtimes, others not. In all those years, I have not one time seen it move. I did see the hood open once from a far.

There was an S2 coupe that used to sit under a cover next to a guys house by me all the time, I'd never seen him outside until the day he was leaving to move somewhere, I pulled in his driveway to ask him about it. He was pretty cool, he knew it pretty well and it only had like 30,000 miles on it. Kind of disappointed me that he didn't recognize my car at first because of the different nose, even though he owned an '84 a few years back...

What a waste; cars were meant to be DRIVEN.

That guy who bought that Ferrari a few months back (won a bunch of races and stuff, famous car) and actually intends on driving it has the right idea. I don't know about his plan to take it to work and such, but a Friday night/Saturday cruise is the way to go.

I wonder how long it would take him to notice it was gone if you stuck any old red 944 under that cover?

Longer still if the garage were to "catch fire" by some terrible twist of luck. He who dares wins and all that.

Or as my mum would say: "God helps those who help themselves."

Of course "God help those caught helping themselves" is another one of her less encouraging pearls of wisdom too. No wonder I was a mixed-up kid. What to do? What to do?

I keep my car garaged up! I'm one of those rare "old guys" who bought a new 944 in 1984, drove it, autocrossed it, etc. (put every one of the 81K miles on it) but fanatically maintained the car over the years, keeping it near perfect, both mechanically and cosmetically. It is driven on nice days but usually remains covered in the garage. It's an attempt to have my cake and eat it too... besides being a reminder of my misspent yuppie youth!

I'd like to give the car to my nephew when he's sixteen but when I think about how it would be treated, I get second thoughts. What's the consensus, should I give him the car or not? It surely wouldn't be "garaged up" any more.

I'm sure your nephew would appreciate having the car...I know I would when I was 16, but then again, when I was 16 I was pretty rough on cars.

He would probably take better car of the car after he beats up his first car.

For goodness' sakes, you're in Lexington. A tough winter there is when the snow takes 2 days to melt instead of one! Drive the darn thing, already.

I drive mine in the winter without fear. I drive on dry roads not snow covered and I frequently have the underside washed. These cars are galvenized correct? Plus the real monster of winter is the salt that DOT puts down .... Snow is nothing but frozen rain.

I have mine in a garage here in Sweden. We have this "car killer" in Sweden, which you refer to as salt. Mine hasent been on the road at Winter time for the last 24 Years. In sweden, this is something which is rated when/if you would sell your car.
In Sweden new cars, ~two/three years old, already start to rust, due to the salt. Imaging that !!!

Perhaps these mint examples sit forever in the garage because they spun the #2.
