I need to run some wire into the engine to splice into the O2 sensor signal wire. I looked under the dash at the firewall to find a spot I could go through, but no luck. Can someone tell me how they did it.

Just wire it directly into the harness going to the DME. It is pin 42 or 43 I THINK. Search the archives at the rennlist to find out for sure.

actually you want to hook it up as close to the 02 sensor as possible. you can also hook it into the sensor wires to avoid splicing the factory harness. just go through one of the existing grommets.

Go through one of the grommets?????
What grommet. I can't even see any grommet under the dash. Please tell me exactly where can I find one or where you ran your wire to get at the sensor. I want to run the wiring as close to the sensor for a better reading. I won't go to the dme. |

There is a large grommet with three cable bundles underneath the DME test connector (on the firewall right in front of the fuse box). I used a 2' long 1/8" steel rod (borrowed my son's Estes rocket rail), greased it up and slid it down inside the sleeve of one of the bundles. Be careful and don't force it, you will feel it when it is right. It takes several tries to find the right spot and angle, you also might want to try a different sleeve on one of the other bundles. Once you're through the grommet, you might have to punch the rod through the insulation to get completely inside.
The rod should come out in the car above the clutch pedal. Stand on your head underneath the steering wheel and you will see the wire bundles where they route underneath the fuse box. Tape the wire to the rod, grease it and carefully pull it back out into the engine compartment. Leave some extra length and you can use that wire later to pull more wires in the future. I have successfully run wires through there on both of my cars. |

What the hell difference is it going to make if you hook the a/f up closer to the O2 sensor? Somebody please come up with a logical answer for this one. Thanks

I personally would go through the bottom of the fuse panel. It provides easy access into the engine bay from under the driver's side dash. It's simple to get to and would be very close to the O2 sensor wires.

Dude its not that hard...
1. solder one wire to the sensor wire, the other to ground. I connected ground lead to the outer brade of the green wire, then grounded to both the engine and the firewall. ![]() 2. Run the wire through the fire wall with the wire bundle through the grommet. I ran my connection using a shielded, paired wire set (grey). ![]() 3. I don't know what it means yet, but it sure looks pretty. ![]() |
