Why is there never a perp around when you need to strangle someone?

Nasty noise materialized this morning after I pulled out of an Oxford parking lot. Got progressively worse as I drove home. "***** front wheel bearings grumbling away there by the sound of it. Wonder if I can adjust my way out of some expense?"

So I go home and whaddya know? Some mother****er had attempted to steal my front wheel. The anti-theft nut was still tight at 96 foot pounds but the other nuts could be undone with my fingers. It's bad enough having scumbags out there that don't give a rat's arse whether their meddling is liable to kill someone but geeze ... stupid thieves seem somehow worse ... you'd think the crunt would have started with the anti-theft nut and then given up. Wanker!

will944 01-16-2004 09:33 AM

Thanks for the reminder....I should make sure I have an anti-theft nut on the new 951 I bought recently....

Glad to hear he didn't walk away with a new set of wheels and leave you stranded....

Dark Skies 01-16-2004 09:35 AM

Glad am I that my wheel didn't fall off at 70 mph on the motorway and stuff me under the wheels of an artic truck.

will944 01-16-2004 09:37 AM

Very lucky indeed!!

Given the danger to the driver and other road users at large I think a law should be passed requiring people that meddle with safety aspects of cars should be placed in public stocks. The sentence served should be as long as it takes for the elastic band wrapped around their scrotum to result in their knackers rotting off. S'only fair, right?

LOL!! Bummer. Reminds me of when I was riding my Scwinn 10-spd to school. Someone unlocked my quick relese front wheel while the bike was locked up. On the way home I heard some jangling crossing the train tracks, so I popped a quick wheely...front wheel continued to roll down the street and I was catapulted to a personal meeting with the local EMT professionals courtesy of my faceplant on the asphalt at 20 mph.

NYC_SpeedRacer 01-16-2004 09:55 AM

sorry to hear....and definitely lucky nothing happened to u while driving 70mph

Ouch!!! That reminds me of the time I was racing neck and neck against a guy at school on our bikes, arses in the air, peddling like demons - bastard slapped my front brake on and I went arse over tit and hit a tree upside down. Wonder my spine didn't shatter. His dad gave him a right old slapping and bought me a new bike miles better than the POS I was riding.

Definitely. Ordinarily I'd have nursed it home but as I was on the motorway I had to keep up with the traffic. Could have gone very pear-shaped.

so do u have to replace anything like bearings and such?

something similar happened to me on the road.....i was driving on the highway around 3am (so not many cars) my friend was in his SUV behind me.....i heard some rattling and some shaking on my front left wheel.....so i slow down and and was about to stop on the shoulder lane to the right......then my friend passed me.....and all of a sudden i heard a boom and my from left wheel fell off and rolled ahead on the highway.....luckily i was already slowed down to about 2mph....so my car dropped and skid about a foot.....then i see my friend who stopped ahead about 100 ft ahead jumped out of his car (obviously he pulled over on the shoulder too) and ran onto the highway to get my rim.....no cars on highway at that moment and it was late.....apparently some of the lugs were loose when it was put on by that same friend........i ended up having to replace the bearings and hub.....luckily nothing else
we laugh at the story all the time....only cause nothing major happened to my car or me

As I was already in the mindset to repack and adjust my front bearings I figured I might as well just get on and do it anyhow. Bearings were fine but regreasing couldn't hurt anyhow.

So I've driven the car into my garage and I was just getting my jack together when I notice that the plastic shaped trim around my nearside side light / indicator is broken in the corner near the edge of the indicator. A closer inspection reveals the clear imprint of the sole of a combat boot. Seems I didn't get off so lightly after all. Seems like having thwarted the crunt who tried to half-inch my wheel he booted my car in a fit of pique.

I'm not a man of violence but ... actually ... scrub that. I am a man of violence although I like to think that I have a reasonable grip on my temper but ... I so want this guy tied to a chair, bound and gagged with a tray of well balanced ball pein hammers at my disposal and a weekend with not much else to do but torture this creep to death. Is that unreasonable?

Fate only keeps me alive and uninjured so that it can mock me. There's no fun kicking a cripple when he's down.
Oh ... unless he used to be a car / bike thief. Then it's perfectly aceptable to boot them out of their chair and steal the wheels off of it.

damn...that sux.....how much do u think it's gonna cost u to fix that trim area?

maybe u should park the car in the same area and stake it out ....if the guy is stupid enough to try again...u grab him....tie him up throw him in the trunk and BAM....ur weekend is set....;)

Dunno. My car is saphire silver which is quite an easyand common colour to match up - hopefully I can get hold of a secondhand one from a breakers. I like to think it'd only be around £20 but, like my wife says: "wish in one had ***** in the other" (WHY would anyone DO that?).

There are a fair few specialist breakers but I've never ever seen a Porsche in an ordinary walkaround breakers yard. Plenty of Beemers though.
