You never mentioned what your fluid level is like. Sounds to me like part of the hydraulic system is locking up, most likely the master cyinder piston.

I think i need to go back to sleep, i never even saw the "checked fluid...ok". Still think it might be your master cylinder.

It sounds to me like your vacuum boost ("power assisted" brakes) is not working.

When this happens, the pedal gets very hard and stopping effort is enormous.

Hope this helps

Pump the brakes a few times then hold the brake and start the engine. Did the pedal drop any? If not then check for vacuum at the brake booster. With the enigine running pull the vacuum line of at the booster and see if you have a vacuum, if you have a vacuum gauge you should have at least 15inHG at idle. If you have less than 15 check vacuum comming right off the intake manifold. If vacuum is good at the manifold but not at the booster check the vacuum line to see if it collapsed on the inside or just replace the line. If you have good vacuum to the booster and it isn't providing power assist then it is most likely that you booster is bad. Hope this helps.

None of my catalogs have the brake booster in them, let alone the plastic part that seems to have disintergrated on yours. MAYBE a dealer might have that piece or you maybe be able to find one from salvage. Good chance you need a whole new brake booster. Make sure you take your old one with you, the made 2 versions of it.

Cool

This is the Vacuum Booster Check Valve.

According to the Porsche "Parts & Technical Reference Catalog" for water cooled models 1977-1988, this part is listed as:

Check Valve with A/C for 1983-88 944 & 944/S is Porsche P/N 477 611 933A.

You really should get a copy of this catalog as well as an owners manual and a repair manual and start to learn everything you can about the car if you are going to keep it and do your own repairs.
