I purchased a 996 cabriolet, but I missed the 944S2 cab I had. I also had a 928S4, but enjoyed the 944 feel the best. The dash is SOLID, the feel is all German and the quality/fit was supurb (The 996 dash pales in comparison to the 944). Therefore I purchased a 86 944. It need several things, but the cracked dash bothers me. Any suggestions for replacement and is it worth fixing up?

Miami944,
I'm in Orlando FL! As for the dash, it's got 5 inch cracks times >10 from the Florida sun. Also, I've tried the vinyl repair kits in the past and it's not worth it. It gives the edges a "home-made" look. Maybe you will have more success than me. Good luck and thank for the reply. |

It'll be cheaper to purchase a totalled 944 for parts. Maybe, I'll have to get the dash covered in matching vinyl. Rollins, hope to see you on the road. In the mean time I'm having the motor mounts and belts replaced at the Porsche dealership in Maitland.

Depending where you live, I know a guy who is an expert with 944's, much more so than some of the dealership guys. He is on 434 near 427. The place is called Stashus. He's a great guy, really honest.

Thank you for the advise. I will have to try the shop. The dealership said my 944 is ready today. For the motor mounts, belts, and tranny fl. its $1300. I guess I really should have gone to Straus.
