Shift Boot Alternatives?

Just wondering if there is an alternative to the shift boots found in the 944's. From what I've read and see so far, you can the two piece (which I don't really care for) or you can get the one piece. The one piece from the dealership is some outragous $350 or something, but I think it does include the cap on the top of the shift lever (with the engraving of the shift pattern). I know they have one piece aftermarket shift boots out there, but they all seem to not include the shift boot cap. And I'm a little weary of the fit. Haven't seen one of these in person, how are they?

I'm thinking about fabricating a shift lever that will accept a chrome throw lever. Then have somebody stitch up a leather boot to fit just below it and attach to the center console.

Any pics or comments greatly appreciated...

I have the shiftboot from automotion. The leather is nice, and the boot and knob are pretty much the same as stock(a little different) and in the ad for the boot, it says doesn't include plate with shift pattern, but when I got it, it had a plate, but its not the same as stock. It's black with silver smaller numbers and a pattern. And it's not engraved, its clear over the letters so it's smooth, I left it on because I think it looks nice.

the aftermarket one from pelican is great I've gotten two. (two diffrent cars) Leave it out in the sun for about 1/2 an hour and it's pretty easy to get in. I have an enamel button with a porsche emblem on it.. if you want to do a newer shift lever Dave Harrington on Rennlist is selling a short shift that is out of this world and is about $80 I think.

Just pull up the ring at the base of the leather boot to expose the stuff underneath, and then remove the pin at the base of the metal shifter, where it meets with the rod that goes into the console. It will then be able to pull off.
