New car solution converting auto to 5spd. Some questions!

Yeah, I actually had the 951 for 3 whole days "test drive" but ended up giving it back. I know myself I would have gotten in trouble with it and I am to use to the low end tourqe of my S4.

I read a post couple days back of someone converting an auto to a 5spd and I re tooled my train of thought. What al needs to be swaped out to convert to 5 spd? My brother said it can be done and the hardest thing would be the clutch pedal.

Now my 944 is a late 85 and the parts car will be a 83-84. Does anyone know if such a trade will work? Can a early model trany be fitted into a late model? What about the trans mounts? What will have to be done to make that work? And what all needs to be changed? Driveshaft, flywheel etc...

thanks
Ven

I just got my car back from this conversion, and wow, it is so much faster!!! You need a whole lot of ****, and its not cheap, and its very time consuming. You will need to change out tons of stuff, I will try to get a full list for you, I ordered all my parts from parts heaven, most are new, and a shop did the work for me. I am very happy with it, and the difference is very noticeable. email me with further questions.

HI,

As Daly944 has had it done. It's obvioulsy possible but. It's very heavy on your wallet.
And in my opinion really not worth doing

Your better off selling her and buying a manual

Well since I have a parts 944 with all the stuff needed and access to my borthers shop I wont have any money tied into it, just time.

I was just curiious if pre 85 parts would hum in a late 85.

It would be next to impossiable to find a manual 944 in the same mechanical/cosmetic condition as the auto I recived from my grandfater. It has all the bells and whistels and is in just to good a shpe to part with.

another problem you will encounter is with the gauges, the early cars have some cable guages, and I could be wrong, but I think the gauges in the later cars are electonic, if this is so you will have to switch sensors, and I dont know if they will fit... I dont know where all the sensors are, but I know some are around the tranny, or in it?
