I Bought some OEM Mahle oil filters from a MAJOR online Porsche retailer with a great reputation (who will remain anonymous). They sent the filters to me about 3 months ago (Yes, I ordered early). When the box arrived I opened it up, checked the invoice, made sure all filters and crush gaskets were accounted for and put it in the garage.
It is now time to change my oil in approx. 200 miles and upon further inspection the filter box says it's for a 911. I immediately called the retailer and explained my problem. They said "don't worry, it says that, but will work with a 944". They repeatedly assured me after my disbelief. Does anyone know if this carries any validity? The last set of Mahle filters I used did not say 911 on them and seemed shorter than the ones I recently received. I don't want to use the wrong filter. Thanks in advance. |

I too bought my Mahle oil filters from a reputable online retailer...an eBay seller. Six months ago I purchased 10 Mahle filters for $35.00. The box states that the filter will fit 924, 944 and 968. It does not state that the filter will fit a 911. The box also has the designation of "OC 142". I would send them back and get the correct ones unless your local Porsche dealership verifies the compatibility.

Um I rember the old filters on my TARGA way back when and I would say "slim chance in hell" it would be like beating the square block in the triangle hole.

What is the number on the filter? On the 964 Turbo, the oil filter is the same as a 944 but the older parts had a different part number that was superceeded to the current 944 number. Does the filter look the same?
