Tach & Speedo swap

I have an '83 944 and was thinking of swaping the postion of the speedometer with my tachometer, which would place the latter in the center. Has anyone here tried this? Is their any reason why this wouldn't work?

I might be wrong, it's been awhile since I've had mine apart. I think the wiring will not reach in the transposed positions though.

it will work, i have done it. you have to make some slack in the speedo cable though.

How much slack are you talking about and how did you go about doing it? Also, did you have to remove your steering wheel to get the
instrument panel off?
