Timing

hey does anyone know how to set the timing on an 86 944? The car idls fine but when I drive it it shakes like crazy and the mech said he thought it was out of time. The haynes manual doesnt mention it that I can find.

check the motor mounts before you go messing with the timing. what you are describing is typical of bad motor mounts.

Your mechanic, does he have prior 944 experience?

When last were the Timing and balance shaft belts looked at ? Balance shafts out of sync!

to me shaking indicates wheel imbalance/suspension problems.

How do I tell if the balance shafts are out of sync.? Is that a home fix or mech. fix and if a home fix how do I do it?

Do a search on "Balance Shaft" and on "vibration". This topic has come up several times.
