I have been reading dozen of past posts regarding Borla/MSDesigns/Bursch headers and exhaust systems(w and w/o cat). Everyone seems to have lots of good ideas, but I would like to know which solution you feel is the best.
I need to replace my muffler and figured I would do enitre job while in there. I would love an increase in HP. However, I do not want it any louder. I have an 87 944S. Please post any suggestions. Thanks!! |

Replace it with an OEM style muffler unless you like noise. I had an "S" with a Bursch and couldn't wait to throw the Bursch away. You probably won't gain more than 1 hp with an aftermarket exhaust on that car either. You can probably get a good price on an OEM quality muffler from GPR parts. For hp, look to the cams before anything else $$$$.

I have an'84 944 with a bursch exhuast (cat back only) It's louder, but not signifigantly. It changed the tone of the exhuast more than increased volume. It does have an annoying resonance at around 3K though.
I noticed a very slight performance improvement, but that could be due to the porting of the head and the extra exhuast flow combined. If you don't want any extra noise, replace it with an OEM setup. (ANSA makes the OEM exhuast, i think) Mike |
