Shaun..... its probably time we give it a rest..... the next event will soon occur that will scare/anger/and sicken us..... and this cycle will start all over again.....
People just needed to vent, just like you did. I think we are all just waiting at the edge of our seats for the next event. The only thing that age and experience will give you is patience. Patience to not talk before you have the facts, Patience to not get angry at someones ignorance, Patience to tolerate those that may hate you for no other reason....for what you represent.... good or bad.... all things work out in the end. I understand the mix feelings you are going trough, you want to support your country, your race, your religion, but unfortunately they are all being attacked. Lets just wait and see, and hope that whatever happens is quick, and life can regain some sence of calm. |

What Shaun had brought up in the other post is WAY too important to discount or get into a semantic argument over. I am hearing you Shaun, very loud and very clear.

San Diego Muslims Face Hate Crimes:
Hani Ilaian, who owns a Middle Eastern grocery on El Cajon Boulevard, said that someone called his store and asked if he had rat poison in stock, Ilaian said. "I wish you do, so I can poison you," the caller told him. Another person phoned the store and said, "I wish all you Arabs are destroyed." Meanwhile, a killing in Arizona may be a reaction to the terror attacks. Frank Roque allegedly shot and killed a Mesa, Arizona gas station owner who was of Indian descent. It's believed that Roque murdered Balbir Singh Sodhi after mistaking the Sikh for a Muslim, because the victim wore a turban. Other possible hate crimes include an attack on an Indian man in Tulsa, Oklahoma, an attempt to run over a Pakistani woman in New York state, and a fire at a Seattle mosque. |

From our recent past . . .
JULY 1, 1937 MARTIN NIEMOELLER, CHURCH DISSIDENT LEADER, ARRESTED Martin Niemoeller, one of main opponents of Nazi racial ideology in the Lutheran church and one of the founders of the oppositional "Confessional Church," is arrested. He is sent to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in 1938 and spends the next seven years in concentration camps. After the war, Niemoeller's condemnation of bystanders to Nazi policies will become a call to early action. His words: "First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist - so I said nothing. Then they came for the Social Democrats, but I was not a Social Democrat - so I did nothing. Then they came for the trade unionists, but I was not a trade unionist. And then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew - so I did little. Then when they came for me, there was no one left who could stand up for me." As Jewish children in Hebrew School where I grew up, we were reminded every week for every year until confirmation "we shall never forget lest history be repeated." I know that it is my obligation to shout out at the top of my lungs that this CAN NOT continue. This MUST NOT continue! This racial and religious intolerance must stop now! This is that "call to early action." Since reading these articles earlier this evening I have been trembling continuously. What happened last Tuesday is horrific by anyone's standards. What is happening to varrying degrees since is an absolute nightmare. I understand that some might not see this in the same order of terror as I. I will not waiver however and ask those who don't to just imagine to walk in our Arab-American brothers' and sisters' shoes for a moment. Please do everything you possibly can to make sure this stops here and now. I believe this might be the most urgent matter we face right now. Please don't let harm come to those whom are our friends. |

Phat-S and all the others,
I thank you for you kind stance and supporting comments. In these hard times, we (Arabs and Muslims in the US) can only hope that everyone passing by us in the street is as open minded and understanding as you all are ... In this scenario, Ignorance can by no means be bliss, but rather awareness and realistic understanding of the facts ... Ehab A. Goldstein (Born and raised in Jordan, Originally from Bethlehem in Palestine - 1948 refugees, Christian in Faith, with a Jewish-sounding last name ...) |

How many times has "my condolences to the family and friends of the victims" been said? I'm not pointing my finger at anyone (don't take it that way FTY) all I am saying is unless you have something meaningful to add to this discussion, don't bother posting. We all feel bad for the people who were hurt by this. No need to let everyone else know. Shaun: I am very sorry to hear about what is going on over there in CA and the west coast. Here in FL I have seen no kind of attacks against muslims or middle easterners. I personally see that is a weak excuse to make yourself feel good. After all, was there a surge in the killings of white males after what Timothy McVeigh did? No. Some people are stupid and don't realize they are only making things worse.

I heard on TV yesterday that 48 attacks on Muslims or middleesterners were being investigated. I thought these dumb people, taking away from the WTC investigation.
Maybe we need to clean out our own terrorists before getting the ones overseas. We have to realize that we have some in this country that would be just as dangerous as Bin Laden if they had his money. I'm pretty sure we have more of Bin Laden's bunch & supporters still here, too. We need to hang together or fall alone to paraphase Ben Franklin. One thing we should let Bin Laden's boys know is how generous he is giving them a chance for glory in heaven with slaves of all the infidels they kill. He is so unselfish, hiding instesd of takings these oportunities before his men. drew1 |

The paraphrase comes from Confederate General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. I have to agree with it even today. History being a favorite subject of mine, I have found that reading primary source material gives a better picture of the people involved. Jackson didn't approve of the War nor slavery, and counseled patience and moderation until a military response became the only one. Churchill had a similar way of putting it- jaw jaw is preferable to war war. But note that both, when the military answer was the only one, went at it with the gloves off.
As for the international scene, my cousin was in Amsterdam at a trade show last week. He was turned out of his hotel by the kind, "devout muslim" Arab managers because of the airline situation and reservation problems resulting and was unable to get a room anywhere. He was basically homeless and out of contact with the family for nearly 48 hrs. The "kind" managers wouldn't even let him stay in the lobby, but agreed to store his luggage in a secure area, where it was promptly stolen, including his insulin. He's back in the US now, with a fresh supply. Want to know what he thinks of the much ballyhooed "islamic kindness" to strangers in need? |

I thought I'd share this. i got it from an email form an Iranian friend of mine, I don't know where he got it from but I liked it.
Letter to a terrorist: Well, you hit the World Trade Center, but you missed America. You hit the Pentagon, but you missed America. You used helpless American bodies, to take out other American bodies, but like a poor marksman, you STILL missed America. Why? Because of something you guys will never understand. America isn't about a building or two, not about financial centers, not about military centers, America isn't about a place, America isn't even about a bunch of bodies. America is about an IDEA. An idea, that you can go someplace where you can earn as much as you can figure out how to, live for the most part, like you envisioned living, and pursue Happiness. (No guarantees that you'll reach it, but you can sure try!) Go ahead and whine your terrorist whine, and chant your terrorist litany: "If you can not see my point, then feel my pain." This concept is alien to Americans. We live in a country where we don't have to see your point. But you're free to have one. We don't have to listen to your speech. But you're free to say one. Don't know where you got the strange idea that everyone has to agree with you. There's a spirit that tends to take over people who come to this country, looking for opportunity, looking for liberty, looking for freedom. Even if they misuse it. You guys seem to be incapable of understanding that we don't live in America, America lives in US! American Spirit is what it's called. And killing a few thousand of us, or a few million of us, won't change it. Most of the time, it's a pretty happy-go-lucky kind of Spirit. Until we're crossed in a cowardly manner, then it becomes an entirely different kind of Spirit. Wait until you see what we do with that Spirit, this time. Sleep tight, if you can. We're coming.
