Question Fuel Tank Level Sending Unit ...

Is there a trick to removing the sending unit? I disconnected the electrical and removed the allen bolts but the s_o_b wouldn't come out. It will only rise about 1/2" from it's seat.

on mine, there was no allen bolts. i pulled back the pad, then i took off the hoses. then you unscrew the black collar and pull it out. getting the hoses off isnt easy. you gotta loosen then then push them back with a flat head screw driver. carefull not to puncture them. now putting them back is a WHOLE different story. get some vice grips.

That's the one, but there are no hoses. I pulled up my carpet, removed the aluminized padding, removed the black plastic cap, disconected the 3 electrical wires, and five allen bolts but no hoses.

Joe I have an 83 also and there are no hoses. I took mine out a couple of months ago and all I did was take off the allen bolts, disconnected the wires and it came right out. Im not sure why it would stick in there like that. Anyhooo.....once you get it out you can take it apart and clean it or do what i did and shake it up and down a few times to loosen the gunk. Did that, put it all together and the guage is just fine.
just my 2 cents worth.

Question

mouse,

is there any reason why I shouldn't try to force the sender out? Is the underside narrow enough that I woun't damage anything if i pull up on it?
