Hi there!
If I want to test my car on the 1/4 mile, would you suggest me to put some high octane gas? Would it be really that better and would it be bad for the car? The car is a 1986 951 with a stroker kit (2.8L conversion), an Autothority chip stage II and a boost controller @ 15 PSI. Thanks alot guys ![]() |

Make sure its unleaded and you should be fine.. You wont have to worry about detonation.
I have some 108 octane (unleaded) in the garage, and some Nutec, there is no octane rating on the Nutec, but its $250 for the 15 gallon drum. I have not put either in the porsche, and probably won't... Probably.... heh heh... The Nutec does contain lead. ![]() Some intereting engineering facts about the bikes we race.. 600cc with exhaust, filter, remapped injection, and Nutec results in about 109hp at rear wheel, redline is 14,500. Thats a stock motor, with a few tricks you can get around 115hp 600ccc !! |

The higher octane gas will not help you one bit except for preventing detonation and all that happens once that occurs. So just run high enough octane for your given boost level and timing.
You can make up your own race gas by adding toulene to pump gas and getting just the right octane. Toulene is 114 octane (there is already toulene in your pump gas) so just calculate quantities by volume. For 95 octane out of 91 pump gas you would want to add about 3.2 gallons of toulene to 15 gallons of 91 pump gas. With your setup you probably don't need much more than 93 octane. You can get toulene from paint stores, Home Depot or chemical supply houses. Will cost between $3 and $8 a gallon depending on who and how big a supply you buy. Don't spill it on your paint and let it sit if you want nice paint. ![]() |
