Greetings,
I just got a Notice of Nonrenewal on my policy. The reason given to me was "Vehicle is the problem". Their reason for refusal to renew: My '89 944 is considered extreme from the standpoint of performance capabilities. WTF??? This car only have 162HP. There are station wagon with more HP then my car! Anyone here have insurance with Safeco? |

Talk to your agent and see if he will go to bat for you with the Company.
If nothing else changed, like tickets, DUI, it seems a bit extreme and your State Insurance Commissioner might be interested in this business practice. |

Insurance companies are strange beasts. I have 5 vehicles. Other than the brand new costly one, my 1993 400E sedan costs the most to insure. It is because it is considered a "performance vehicle". Evidently, this was determined by some desk piloting paper pusher. I have discussed this with them but do not want to rangle them much because if I tell them that three other vehicles of mine will easily outrun the 400E, they might raise my rates. The others are considered "sports cars". For some strange reason, this is less offensive than a "performance vehicle".
I have a good driving record but got 9+ moving violations prior to age 31. I am much older now. |

I bought my porsche for my 17 year old son. My insurance co. shelby, refused both of us. I have liability from another co. but I had to sign a promise that only my wife and I will drive it, he is heartbroken! We have tried allstate, state farm and two smaller co. in Illinios but no luck. They all cite the car as a type they want to avoid. Good part is I am having a blast driving it.

I should add that I have not had any ticket since 1992.

Try Geico if they are available in your area. I've heard good things about them. Also, if you have a military affiliation, try USAA; undoubtedly the best insurance company in the US.
Good luck, and if your hack insurance company thinks a 944 is too much performance, they must have Yugos as their corporate fleet. |

Mine is insured with Progressive (I think the number is 1-800-autopro). Didn't get any hassle but I am an "oldguy".
