Post More H.P.

The basic way to improve H.P. is to pump more air. So with that understanding, do any of you guys know how I can get more air into my 84 944 n/a AND stay within the scca rules for csp? Will an air flow meter from another year(turbo)work on my engine? I have a header with 2 1/2 inch exhaust and Jacobs prostreet ignition.

Electric leafblower motor, discreetly hidden somewhere? A portable 200 PSI airtank, set up with nitrous-like firing system...hidden in the spare tirewell. Nitrous, well hidden?

Doesn't street prepared allow any kind of carburetion? Get an aftermarket injection computer to run the injection (MAP instead of vane MAF).

MAP = manifold absolute pressure. It calculates air flow based on the pressure, RPM, throttle position, cylinder volume, and a few other things. It basically uses a barometer as the main determenant of air flow. I could be wrong, but that is as best as I understand it. The main advantage to this method, besides its zero restriction on the intake, is that you can do all sorts of things before the meter (like put a blow off valve on a turbo, for instance), because the meter is placed between the intake runners and throttle body, so loss of air before this will not affect the mass of air that is actually metered and consumed by the engine, so it is extremely accurate.

MAF = Mass air flow. This method uses a wire that is in the middle of the intake stream to calculate airflow by heating the wire, the passing air cools the wire, and the voltage it takes to keep the wire at a constant temperature tells the ECU how much air is being sucked in. It is e(or a?...somebody help me out here...I don't think I will ever know the proper usage of the words unless I find out soon)ffected by the same things that effect AFM type air metering systems, such as running rich between gear changes and sudden lifts of throttle if a BOV is installed in a turbo system. It is much less restrictive and more accurate than AFM, so that is why many kits are available for cars originally equipped with AFM type metering systems.

Cool, finally learned MAF today. As a token of my appreciation, here goes the affect/effect stuff

Affect- a verb

The wind affected the golf game

Effect- a noun

The wind had a bad effect on the golf game.

How do I know this? You'll have to trust me (I got a 750 in the writing SAT2)

Thanks. So I guess I used effected and effect where I should have used affected and affect. Oh well. Maybe I should take another writing class before I graduate college.

Glad your Prostreet ignition works. Mine never did, and I had to return it.

I think i got it.... On the 84 n/a (remember no turbo)there is a little door that measures the air flow. This would be the same as the one with the heated wire ie maf. Where would one get a map that would work on my car? Also Where did you learn this stuff? What is your referance source and can I get my hands on it?
Thank you for all your good help.
