klinging noise ????Help
Started the car today and all i can hear is this belli / klingin noise from the front. Im sure it comes from the front of the engine. hard to explain the noise but it seems like a mix of screeching and klinging - it is not the alternator belt as i double checked the tension and it is fine. the car is a 924/82 - also my ventils seem to klick a lot more than before - car has 94000 miles and i will be changing belts soon.
any help pls. Frankydoom/London/UK |
Sounds like you're looking in the right area. Try taking a very large screwdriver and using it to hear around the front engine accessories by putting the butt of the handle to you ear and the blade on things like the power steering pump, alternator, timing belt cover... you should be able to tell when the sound gets stronger... just be careful not to get to close to belts and other moving parts. Be careful if it's the waterpump, if it seizes it can cause the timing belt to throw and the terrible bent valve situation could arise. If the waterpump is failing, sometimes you'll see steam coming from the top of the timing belt cover and it will eventually start overheating.
