Post what the heck is this plug?

On my '87 944n/a, I have a light grey color, 2 prong female plug that is just lying there on the top of the engine. Its right next to an electric blue plug that looks just the same and I think this one (blue) is plugged into the temperature sensor. They are just about 5" to the drivers side from #1 spark plug. What do you guys think?

Shaun. The port you are describing is used for smog testing. A small metal tube is extended from this location and goes up into the engine comparment and finishes just to the side and behind the cam tower. Because of vibration or other repairs, this extension tube is often broken at the base and a small exhaust leak is the result. A common fix is to remove the tube and to cap the probe location on the exhaust pipe.

I just took a look in my engine compartment (87NA) and couldnt find any extra plugs in the area you mentioned. The only 2 prong plugs around there that I could find were fuel injector harness plugs- I hope that is not what you are talking about. I know on my friends corvette there are a number of extra plugs like that for diagnostics, and for use during manufacture, to power the harness on the assembly line, etc..
good luck

No, its not an injector plug. I didn't ever notice it myself until I started taking parts off to try to solve my starting problem. Its right underneath the black rubber air tube that connects the throttle valve with the air flow sensor. I didn't notice it until I took all that stuff off. Its just lying there and I never had trouble before. So maybe its a test plug or I've even wondered if it might be something that the turbo models use???? Or maybe it would go to an accessory like cruise control (I don't have cruise). Well, if anybody can chime in, please do so. Very interesting stuff. TIA

I'm fairly certain that the only major connection for the cruise control is the servo located on the opposite side of the engine compartment from the throttle (back near the battery). The other cruise control connections are inside the car.

I have the same type of deal, but it is more towards the fire wall, and by the top. 2 people told me it was for diagnostics.
